Subject: Homeschool Senior: Hannah-HannahElizabeth

Today, I would like you to meet 2008 Homeschool Senior, Miss Hannah

My name is Hannah, I live in a small town in Arkansas, and I have three younger sisters. I am thankful to have been blessed with the opportunity to be homeschooled since the 1st Grade and I am proud to soon be a homeschool graduate. I love playing the piano and singing, as well as crocheting, playing the flute, and drama. I am also grateful to have the opportunity to teach the 2 & 3 year old Sunday School class at her church.

My favorite subjects have always been music and literature. I think my favorite part of having been homeschooled is that I was able to concentrate more on the subjects that I enjoy, and get extra help on the subjects that I did not. Looking back through the years, I wouldn’t have ever changed being homeschooled; and the times when I was younger and couldn’t help but notice that my public schooled friends had more field trips, more time with friends, etc., I have also watched as we have gotten older, and in light of the different decisions we have made and the different life styles we live, I know that I did not miss out on a thing.

After graduation I do not have any immediate plans to attend college, but I hope to continue teaching piano lessons, and running my mini-business, Hannah’s Hats. I also hope to get the opportunity to start playing the piano for weddings.
I love the promise found in Proverbs 3:5-7, and I am striving to always trust in the Lord with all my heart.

Subject: Homeschool Senior: Debs-Free2BMe

Today, I would like you to meet 2008 Homeschool Senior, Miss Debs

Hey ya'll! I'm Debs. My blog is www.homeschoolblogger.com/Free2bme
I've been a Christian for about 5 years and have been homeschooled since I was in third grade.
I'll be 18 on the 15 of March. I am graduating in May with 12 other homeschoolers.

I am very excited about finishing high school and moving into this next time in my life. I used the ACE Paces up until 8th grade and since then I've been using the Alpha and Omega SOS computer curriculims. And I've always used Saxon Math.

I used to wish I went to a 'regular school' but as I've gotten older I am more and more thankful my parents homeschooled me. I plan to homeschool my kids, the Lord willing.
My favorite subject would have to be history, I think that history is a study of people. Their thoughts, hopes, dreams, and beliefs. It doesn't even feel like school to me. I also enjoy english. But chemistry and science! Not my strong suit!
I am a missionary's kid and hope to go into some kind of ministry in the future as the Lord leads my life. I feel like He's called me into missions and or ministry in the church.
I am the second youngest in a family of six, I love big famlies!
I am pretty much an average girl that loves poetry, music, and my family and friends.

Subject: Homeschool Senior: Miranda-TexasGirl

Today, I would like you to meet 2008 Homeschool Senior, Miss Miranda the TexasGirl.

My name is Miranda Renae Rodriguez and I am 17 years old. My blog is www.Homeschoolblogger.com/Texasgirl. I am a military homeschooler.

I have done many different curriculums such as Abeka, Christian Liberty, ACE, BJU and many others. I have a few subjects that I enjoy. I really enjoy German, and studying Cosmetology, but I would have to say that art(sketching) and guitar are my favorite electives.

I am the oldest of six kids. I have a younger sister and four younger brothers. My father recently left for his second deployment to Iraq.

I was born in Texas and have lived in Arizona, South Carolina and Okinawa, Japan. My family and I were going to move to North Carolina last October with my father, but unfortunately our house has not sold yet. Therefore, as of right now we are stationed in South Carolina.

Due to traveling so often, I am a year behind in my school. Lord willing, I will be attending Bob Jones University in a year or two. I will be studying to become a Cosmetologist like my mother.

I was raised in a Christian family and was told that I received Christ at the age 5, but did not truly receive Christ into my heart until the summer of 2004 at the Wild's camp in North Carolina.

I am hoping this next year, God will open my eyes to the great future ahead and guide me through the biggest mistakes and decisions of my life. No matter what happens, I have decided to praise Him and give Him the glory for the things He has done and the things He will continue to do.

Subject: Homeschool Senior: Heather-PianoLove

Today, I would like you to meet 2008 Homeschool Senior, Miss Heather of PianoLove.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Heather aka pianolove. I always love introducing myself, because there is a very interesting fact about me. I am the oldest of eleven children! I enjoy telling people this so much that I even made myself a shirt that says "I'm the big sister". LOL
Now the rest of this will probably be boring compared to that.
I've been homeschooled all my life. We do school via "living books" and whatever curriculum floats our boat. We've used a little of Diana Waring's "What in the World's Going on here" and little Truthquest for history, mostly apologia for highschool science, and actual the writing of letters and such for grammar and spelling. We're using Videotext for algebra and geometry.
A lot of our schooling is done just by reading. Mom picks and chooses the best and most interesting non-fiction for our shelves, and we read.
My favorite subjects are history and science. History is so much fun it doesn't feel like school to me. Actually, art and music are probably my favorites, but I've never even heard it called school  here! I have to fight for my piano time! LOL! Science, is therefore, my favorite school subject!

We've never done graded so this finishing up is new to me. I will probably tell people at some point that I've graduated, but I've no intention of stopping! Well actually, I probably won't be going any farther than geometry in math because I do not enjoy that subject.
I'm planning to go into midwifery someday. Therefore, I will be stressing human anatomy and health and such. I may take Spanish.

Subject: Homeschool Senior: Taneil-Eyebright

Today, I would like you to meet 2008 Homeschool Senior, Taneil of Defective Compositions.

Hi!
My name is Taneil/Eyebright from Defective Compositions, and I am 17 years old.  I’ve been home schooled for thirteen years (counting this year).
When I first became old enough, my parents enrolled me in a pre-school.  Even at that early age, influences other than what my parents wanted, were affecting my mind and actions.  My parents also realized that much of the more academic stuff that I was being taught, I could be taught at home.
So, our adventure in home schooling began, the next year in kindergarten.

We started our home school experience by using full curriculums, and now, in my thirteenth year of home schooling, I can claim to have used Bob Jones, Alpha Omega, Sonlight, Konos, Diana Waring, Greenleaf Press, Saxon Math, Apologia Science, and probably tons more that I don‘t remember.  In the past few years we have used a conglomeration of curriculums.  In fact, I haven’t even really been using a curriculum for Bible and Life Skills.  (Don’t you think homeschoolers learn enough life skills without making it a school subject?)

I absolutely love reading, so for a long time Literature was my favorite subject.  I really don’t like writing essays, and answering text book questions on the books I have read, though, so Literature has fallen slightly to second place.

I have always loved history, one of my favorite times being Ancient Egypt.  My absolutely favorite part of history would be any English history.  I would read stuff on English history all day long.  Strange combination, Egypt and England, but my favorites they remain.
Combine those two favorite subjects (well, at least English history, and Literature), and you get a favorite interest of mine, English Literature, though, I can’t claim to be anything more than a devoted reader to English Classics.  Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, J.R.R. Tolkien, and C.S. Lewis constitute my favorites here.  (I know this is probably sad, but I just cannot grasp Beowulf and Shakespeare!)

My other interests include avidly knitting and crocheting, origami, making my dollhouse, teaching myself to play the piano, recorder, and harmonica, sewing, making costumes, writing, blogging, reading, singing, and discussing books with my wonderful friends.
I am so grateful that my parents made the choice to home school me.  At home I am safely away from public school influence. safe from the false doctrines, and typical public-schooler rudeness.
I love the flexibility of home schooling.  I can wake up early, and completely finish school before lunch.  If we want to travel for a week, there are no fixed school rules and regulations to hold us back.
I know I would be much different if I attended public school, and that difference would NOT be good.
  Homeschool is such a blessing!

Subject: Homeschool Senior:Rebekah-TheLordsDaughter

To get this site up and running, I have asked the HSB Homeschool Seniors to do a little bio of themselves. I will be featuring each of the Seniors this week.

Today, I would like you to meet 2008 Homeschool Senior, Miss Rebekah who is The Lord's Daughter!

My name is Rebekah ~ The LORD’s Daughter. I am nearly eighteen years of age and am the eldest of four soon to be five children. I have three sisters and a baby brother on the way. I blog at http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/TheLordsDaughter. I really cannot say what my favorite subject is as I love learning so much I like most of them equally! I am first and foremost a daughter of the KING! I also love to care for babies, I am an author (unpublished), songwriter, pianist, poet, movie producer, stay-home-daughter, housekeeper, gardener, and much more - not necessarily in that order!

In this my last year of high school I do not have many goals. However, I do have some and I thought I would list them here.
1. First and foremost I want to bring glory and honor to my LORD. That is THE most important “goal” I have.
2. Bible: Finish reading the entire Bible - I am currently in First Chronicles. I want to get through Revelation before I graduate.
3. Finish reading the following (and add a few more :):
Answers Magazine
Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon and Mary Enig
Taking Back Astronomy by Dr. Jason Lisle: I love this book! It is all written with a creationist perspective.
Missionary Patriarch by John G. Paton: An Autobiography
The Chronology of the Old Testament by Dr. Floyd Nolen Jones
The Works of Josephus: I am only reading parts of this. It is very interesting.
The Girlhood Home Companion Magazine
The Girlhood Home Companion Collection
4. Finish our study of the United States of America - we are currently studying the War of Independence.
5. Become a better house-keeper (cooking, cleaning, organizing, meal planning, baking, budgeting, time management, etc...)
6. Become a better gardener.
7. Science: Finish “Exploring Creation with Biology” by Dr. Jay Wile and Marilyn F. Durnell
8. Poetry: Write more and read more.
9. Writing: My book, essays and reviews.
10. Sewing: I want to become a much better seamstress.
11. Computer: Learn more HTML by building a website and typing.
12. Music: Practice my piano more, practice singing, continue to write songs.
13. Movies: Continue learning to create and produce movies.
14. Become a better videographer and photographer.

To the KING be all the glory!
Rebekah ~ The LORD’s Daughter

It's That Time Of Year Again...
This Article was published in Homeschooling Articles

Ah... its that time of year again. It's the time for school to start. It may have started already for some of you, but it starts this week for us. Well, it never actually ended. Living is schooling in our house. Everyday is a learning experience; everyday is something new to learn. We learn by living life. If it's being down in the barn measuring wood for the stall door, or if its having to give your Sister's dying goat a subcutaneous Penicillin shot in her back in the freezing cold, or if its writing articles for magazines or whatever else life brings us... it's LEARNING!!

It's the FUN learning that is. But we usually start actual "school" the day after Labor Day, but we may not start tomorrow. We are still getting what we want to do together. We are not the best organized homeschoolers.

This school year is my last. I am almost finished with my academic education. Whoa, that is unbelievable to me. Its crazy that I have been doing school for 14 years of my life. I'll bet if you ask Mom she can't believe it either. I remember her telling the story of how she decided to homeschool. It is a very neat story to me actually. You should ask her to post about it.

Anyway, I don't have much to do this year. Just kinda finishing up what else I need to learn.

Some of the things I am doing are:

Algebra 2

Accounting

Science

American History/Government

History (Because I like it, not because I need more)

Bible (who can ever get enough of that??)

Spanish (Mom said WE ARE learning at least some this year. We have been trying to for about 4 years!!)

Writing an ebook (its a surprise topic)

Making up my own unit studies

Reading Literature (duh!!)

Reading Homeschool Resource Books

Writing essays

So far that is all I know I have to do. Mom is in the process of making me transcripts to see what else I need to do.

I am thinking about taking some college courses in computer technology, but haven't really looked into that. Not quite sure what I would want to take.

I am kinda excited about this school year. To start off we are doing a study on pioneers, so that should be neat.

I remember a couple years ago we went to this pioneer days thing from our homeschool group. We tasted real apple butter, we bobbed for apples, watched how wool was made from the actual sheep. The lady showed us how to spin it. We learned how to make little heart shaped decorative things out of wheat. They had a story telling time and a bunch of pioneer games. They had wagon rides too. It was pretty neat. I was only about 11 at the time, but it was still very interesting.

See what neat experiences homeschooling has allowed me?? I should try to remember every kind of fun thing I have done while being homeschooled. Although it will be a very long list.

OH I *LOVE* HOMESCHOOLING!!

Thanks Mom for keeping me Home Where I Belong!!
-Amanda
