Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation;

on thee do I wait all the day.

Our Textbookish Side of Homeschooling

A few weeks ago before my Sweets and I talked about the Joshua going to public school I panicked. I thought he would be going to public school for 6th grade. This would have been our last year of having him at home. I recently in another post mentioned that I will homeschool him through 6th grade. So during my panick stage I got these to prepare my son.

We are adding in all but the Word Study and  I might save the yellow Test Prep for mid year. The Word Study & phonics he really doesn't need because he has a Vocabulary book already. I'm still looking at it though. He could always use the phonics portion.

He won't use these everyday. Maybe once a or twice a week. He likes the Science one although it does challenge him. When we finish these at the end of the year I'll most likely get him the 6th grade ones too. At least the Science, Geography and the Texas Test Prep.

After looking them over I really like them. Joshua likes them to which is a big plus. These would kind of give us a road map on what he needs to learn. We don't always get to science so learning tid bits here and there is a good thing.

Here is our textbook part of our schooling for Josh:

Social Studies from Rod & Staff

Rod & Staff Science

Reading

Bible

Annette's Textbookish year

Social Studies

Science

Reading

Caleb's Textbookish year

Social Studies

Science

Reading (once he begins to read a little better) I might even have him go back a year and do Grade 1 for reading. I'll have to see after he is done with The Reading Lesson.

Phonics

Brent is still using only MFW 1st Grade along with some Explode the Code Books.

Like I mentioned in a previous post, it was hard to switch over but I believe it's a good thing. It needs to be done. I really need Josh & Annette working more independent. Many times we don't get something like Science or Geography/Social Studies done because it's getting a little harder for me to pull everyone together and have them all at the same time.

By using Rod & Staff for these subjects I know that they are getting done. It's shifting a lot of these subjects from me to them. We are going to continue our studies with My Father's World but again like I mentioned in a previous post I'm going to do all the reading.

I still will have them do something mentioned from the Well Trained Mind but using R&S to do outlining and such. I'm still trying to figure that part out.

The kids are excited about this and so am I. Annette's going to learn about The Journeys of Paul

And Josh get to use the Human Register from R&S. I have been wanting to use this too.

I think this will complement My Father's World Creation to the Greeks very well.

I also got this creation poster. It's so pretty and it will be used a lot.

In Christ,

Linda<><

I'm Linda, a child of God, wife to my best friend Lupe and mom to Joshua 98, Annette 99, Caleb 00, Brent 01, Ethan 03 & Lance 04. We have been homeschooling since 2002.

We homeschool because we believe that this is what God Wants us to do right now. I love being with my children, most of the time=) I have to admit that there are days when I ask God "Why am I doing this?" and he gently reminds me that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me and deep down inside my heart I know why I am homeschooling ;)
