Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation;

on thee do I wait all the day.

Week 3

I had planned to try to keep a weekly diary of our homeschooling so I was happy to findMrs. Cuddles who is also doing the same thing and hosting "Weekly Homeschool Report"

Already week 3. We got a lot done. Let's see, I'll start with Joshua.

Joshua has been very busy. Monday he took a Math test. He had over 70 problems and he missed four. He got a 91%. Congratulations Josh.

He did 3 lesson of Rod & Staff math and 4 lesson of MUS Gamma.

He is learning how to outline and hopefully soon will be outlining and doing weekly reports in History, Science and with books he reads. He is currently learning to pull the important information from his text. He does good with summarizing so that helps. Here is a page from his outline lesson.

He also did four lessons from his Rod & Staff English. As mentioned in a previous post he is working on simple subject, simple predicate and memorizing his verbs. We continue to review the parts of speech at least three times a week.

Joshua hasn't started his Rod & Staff Science but did use the Spectrum Science 5 this week. Here is a sample of that. This is before I corrected it. One question was for him to tell how a hurricane or tornado could speed up erosion. His "quick" answer was because it goes faster. I told him he had to do that over.

He also did 10 lesson in spelling.

Okay, adding pictures sure is taking long. I think with Annette I'll try something different.

Annette's schooling in a week:

  1. Spelling she completed 10 lessons (All About Spelling Level 1) Both Annette & Josh are half way through level one. Just as predicted they are zooming through. The first level is pretty basic but a foundation that they will need for the next levels.
  2. Reading - she completed three lesson in R&S Reading 3. Next week we are going to review those three lesson more in depths and only do two new lessons.
  3. English - She completed 4 lessons. The book says only 3 lessons are needed for the week but when we can we will add another. She is enjoying Language Lesson 3 by The Well Trained Mind. She is learning her Pronouns and working on memorizing a poem called "The Land of Nod" She also does 3 or  4 days of copywork.
  4. Math - She did 4 lessons from Singapore and 2 lesson from MUSee Gamma.
  5. Science - she completed 2 science lessons from R&S 3. She is learning about water and solid, liquid & gas. She is also reading Christian Liberty Nature Reader 3 and learning about ants.
  6. Social Studies - She completed 1 lesson. She is learning about community

Here are some pictures of her work. These are from today and have not been graded yet

 Caleb School:

  • Science - he did 1 lesson. He is learning about the seasons. Our goal is to do 1 lesson a week maybe two. What I do is read the lesson to him on Monday. Friday I read the same lesson again and he answers the questions. There are 30 lessons for the year. We also played a game with index cards. He puts the month under the correct season.
  • Math - he did four lesson from Singapore
  • English- He did three lessons from Climbing to Good English
  • Reading/Phonics he did 8 lesson from The Reading Lesson, read 3 stories from his Abeka Reader, completed 9 pgs of Explode the Code 3.

Here are some pictures of his work.

With math he is on lesson 3A. He really enjoys MUS. He won't start Singapore Math until Jan. or Feb. He also did 9pgs of Explode the Code book 2 1/2. Science we are reading "Things Outdoors" from Usborne Books.

Oh, I didn't mean that they take too much time when I'm trying to read your page. Just that they take so much time for YOU when your trying to get your post done. Your blog opens quick enough.

I'm Linda, a child of God, wife to my best friend Lupe and mom to Joshua 98, Annette 99, Caleb 00, Brent 01, Ethan 03 & Lance 04. We have been homeschooling since 2002. We homeschool because we believe that this is what God wants us to do right now. I love being with my children, most of the time=) I have to admit that there are days when I ask God "Why am I doing this?" and he gently reminds me that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me and deep down inside my heart I know why I am homeschooling ;)
