Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation;

on thee do I wait all the day.

Christ in our Curriculum

Yesterday I was so excited! Lance's Christ Centered Math curriculum came. It was a bit pricey. Especially since  he is my last little student and I could have used what we have laying around the house. BUT I really wanted something that was geared for my little immature Lance. His fine motor-skills really need to be worked on. You should see his circle he made today.

I don't think he is ready for Schoolaid Math just yet. I like that CCM uses some manipulative's and stories about God.  He learned about Penguins and Generosity. He yawned a bit but that's okay. The program uses some big adult words. He really liked it though and felt like a big boy . Lance, also did a page in his Kumon workbook; My First Book of Cutting. I bought workbook A:1  of Christ Centered Phonics used and am waiting for that to arrive so I can start Lance with phonics.

One of the many reasons why we are homeschooling is to ground them in the Word. I know there are some homeschooling families that prefer not to have Christ woven into all there curriculum and that is fine but I really feel that this is one of the reasons why Lupe and I chose to homeschool.

 I believe that our children should be saturated with the Word of God. Everything should point back to God. This is a big reason why I prefer all our subjects be Christ centered or speak of God. For math this gets a little hard. Josh, uses Math-U-See and although there is no scripture in it Mr. Demme is a man of God and my children have heard him speak via cd's and every so often there are word problems like so and so read so many verses. And just knowing that the program will mention something about God  makes it nice for us.

I know that we parents need to be the #1 source of teaching our children about God and Lupe & I do that. I love that when my children read about Science it talks about God as the creator. When they learn about Grammar, the curriculum will mention that God is a God of order. It's just so wonderful to have these resources for my children.

I totally agree with you about our curriculum always pointing to God. Years ago I had a big discussion about this with a friend of mine that was adamant that her curriculum should be Christian.

I told her that it didn't matter and that math was math and science was science and I could easily just put my Christian input into whatever I was teaching.

Well that night I went to bed and the Lord woke me up in the middle of the night and impressed on my heart that everything that was not of Him, was against Him. I had an Aha moment in the middle of the night. If these people who had written the curriculum had seen fit to deny the existence of God as creator of the world and I was using this curriculum, then I was in total agreement with someone who was against God.

For me, it was my personal experience, it changed the way I homeschool and now I too try to choose predominantly Christian curriculum. I want everything that I use to not only glorify God, but I want to know that since what I'm using is glorifying God, it is also blessed by God to bring the children success in him.

Mathew 6.33 Seek ye First the kingdom of God and all his righteousness, and all THESE things shall be added unto you.

Many Blessings! You are doing a wonderful job with your children seeking God first and He promises to add everything else that will be necessary.

Thank you Dee, for sharing. You have said what is on my heart well. You should start blogging ;)

I love having Christ woven into every subject. Maybe this is why I feel that Growing with Grammar is not for us. It's a great grammar program and my children like it but I miss having God mentioned.

Next year Annette & Brent will use CLE LA and Caleb & Josh will use Character Quality Language Arts. It will be nice to have Christ back into our Grammar again =)

Blessings,

I'm Linda, a child of God, wife to my best friend Lupe and mom to Joshua 98, Annette 99, Caleb 00, Brent 01, Ethan 03 & Lance 04. We have been homeschooling since 2002.

We homeschool because we believe that this is what God Wants us to do right now. I love being with my children, most of the time=) I have to admit that there are days when I ask God "Why am I doing this?" and he gently reminds me that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me and deep down inside my heart I know why I am homeschooling ;)
