Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation;

on thee do I wait all the day.

Getting a Handle on Summer School

After going over all my options of what I can have the children do for Summer School I think I narrowed it down. Remember I was having trouble just thinking about what to do in a earlier post.

For Joshua, I am going to have him finish Writing Tales 2 a few weeks after our 36 week of school mark. We are going to drop the Grammar portion of WT2. This was hard to let go. WT2 Grammar is REALLY good, but doing Growing with Grammar & WT2 Grammar portion was overkill for Josh. Since I really want Josh to have a sense of accomplishment with finishing his workbook I thought it better to let WT to go since he can work on the writing part and in the end he will complete both programs.

Here is his Summer Schedule:

  • Continue with Christian Light Math at a lower grade to review and solidify what he has learned. One lesson a day
  • Time4Learning 30 minutes a day. Either using the math or science part of the program.
  • Reading Detective A1. We'll use the cd-rom version I have decided to stop his regular reading program for the summer. He really needs to work on his critical thinking skills.
  • At a faster pace the Phonics Road to Reading Levels 1 & 2.

And that is basically it for Josh.

Annette's Summer Schedule:

  • Reading Detective A1 30 minutes a day.
  • Math 4x a week 30 minutes.
  • Time4Learning Language Arts 30 minutes a day
  • The Phonics Road levels 1 & 2.

Caleb's Schedule:

Brent's Schedule:

Ethan:

Lance:

  • Start Christ Centered Phonics & Math through out the summer.

It looks like a lot but I strongly believe that my children need to be kept busy. If there is a day that the weather is nice we'll stop to go to the park or something. I plan to have them at least do two hours a day. Where they left off they can start there the next day.

Mom's Schedule:

  • Work half an hour with Ethan using Christ Centered Phonics.
  • Work half hour with Josh & Annette with The Phonics Road
  • Work half hour with Brent & Caleb with The Phonics Road
  • Work 15 with Lance using Christ Centered Phonics & another 15 minutes using CC Math
  • Work 15 minutes with Caleb on Growing with Grammar
  • Work 15 minutes with Brent on Science

I think they are going to keep me pretty busy too . Some subjects can be worked on at night. I'll can always  break it up. Maybe work with Josh & Annette at night when dad is home. I really think by having Josh use Phonics Road levels 1 & 2 over the summer is really going to pay off.

My children are waking up. We might go to the park, come home eat a "What-ever-you-can-find" dinner and play a game of Skip-bo.

I'm Linda, a child of God, wife to my best friend Lupe and mom to Joshua 98, Annette 99, Caleb 00, Brent 01, Ethan 03 & Lance 04. We have been homeschooling since 2002.

We homeschool because we believe that this is what God Wants us to do right now. I love being with my children, most of the time=) I have to admit that there are days when I ask God "Why am I doing this?" and he gently reminds me that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me and deep down inside my heart I know why I am homeschooling ;)
