this will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.

Aug. 7, 2006 - God gave a loaf to every bird

God gave a loaf to every bird, But just a crumb to me; I dare not eat it, though I starve,-- My poignant luxury To own it, touch it, prove the feat That made the pellet mine,-- Too happy in my sparrow chance For ampler coveting.
It might be famine all around, I could not miss an ear, Such plenty smiles upon my board, My garner shows so fair. I wonder how the rich may feel,-- An Indiaman--an Earl? I deem that I with but a crumb Am sovereign of them all.

Aug. 7, 2006 - How do I love thee?

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee to the depth and breadth and height My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight For the ends of Being and ideal Grace. I love thee to the level of every day's Most quiet need, by sun and candlelight. I love thee freely, as men strive for Right; I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise. I love with a passion put to use In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith. I love thee with a love I seemed to lose With my lost saints, I love thee with the breath, Smiles, tears, of all my life! and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

Aug. 3, 2006 - Romance
This poem was written by Edgar Allen Poe and published in 1850.

Romance, who loves to nod and sing With drowsy head and folded wing Among the green leaves as they shake Far down within some shadowy lake, To me a painted paroquet Hath beenmost familiar bird Taught me my alphabet to say, To lisp my very earliest word While in the wild wood I did lie, A childwith a most knowing eye.
Of late, eternal condor years So shake the very Heaven on high With tumult as they thunder by, I have no time for idle cares Through gazing on the unquiet sky; And when an hour with calmer wings Its down upon my spirit flings, That little time with lyre and rhyme To while awayforbidden things My heart would feel to be a crime Unless it trembled with the strings. |
