R.M. Ballantyne

If you recently received the newest promo from Vision Forum, you will have read about R.M. Ballantyne, a very popular artist from *way* back.  All of his books have been out of print until now--Vision Forum is re-publishing them, as they have done with other series in the past.

I must say, I was quite taken with their description of the author and his stories.  What always bugs me, however, is their wonderful sales that require huge buck purchases.  They rarely seem to have individual books in a series for sale--just the whole kit and kaboodle.  I find it hard to believe that there are that many homeschoolers who will spend $400+ at one time on all the Henty's, etc.  Why do they not let us get them on sale one at a time?!

Well...as badly as I wanted the new series for my son--$149.00 for ten hardback books.  I did a little checking and lo and behold they are all free online here.  Now, I would rather have the actual book anytime, but right now $$$ is tight.  Plus, now I can read one to see if they are as good as I believe they will be.  There are actually many more titles available than those Vision Forum currently is publishing.  I'm a bit eager to get to reading.  I did a test print and it's definately easy on the eyes.  I also did a test read--after three pages, I was hooked!  Oh boy.  If you've read them, I'd love to hear what you think.

So, the sale ends tonight.  They will hopefully have them on sale another time.  I'll be watching.  If however, you are like me and want to try before you buy, check out this site.

Hi Melissa! Thank you for sharing your trip to Mount Vernon. Wow! That makes me want to go. We are planning a trip to Colonial Williamsburg in the fall, but aren't quite sure yet. After just an hour in the car with the children yesterday we were truly questioning how much of a road trip we could bear. We decided children's tranquilizers might do the trick! Ha. That's a joke, just in case children's services are scoping out the homeschoolers site.
We are starting Beautiful Feet American History tomorrow. I'm so excited. I didn't know it was principle approach when I ordered it.
Hope you are doing well. I still have your cell # and have been tempted to call you just to say hi, even if I don't have any PA questions. Maybe I will soon.

Hi! Me again. I didn't even realize you had gone to Col. Williamsburg and Jamestown when I left my last comment. How cool! Since you mentioned waiting so long to eat and the difficulty in finding bathrooms, do you think it's better to skip Jamestown when we have four children, including a 4yo and 16 month old. Just a curiosity. Maybe we should put it off until next year when we will have studied more about it and the little ones will be a little older. Any thoughts?

I just put the link in my bookmarks. And I agree with your other commenter, if we could only find one for Lamplighters!!!

You have some really great resource homeschool links! Thank you for that!

Okay, I am amazed at the timing of your blog post. I have been wondering what to do with my young son who is starting to take off reading. What books to buy...I don't really want anything that is unhealthy and mainstream. I want something that will push him closer to God. Thanks for this post.

About Me

In the beginning there was a tree.
The Tree of Life.
When sin entered the world,
we no longer had access to that tree.
We waited for another tree.
The Cross.
Jesus, as the perfect sacrifice for our sins once again gives us access to the
Tree of Life.
But we have to wait.
Wait for Heaven.
Until then, we are...
Living Life Between The Trees.
