Living Life Between the Trees

Upon Seeing Dr. Zhivago for the First Time

I'd never seen the movie, Dr. Zhivago, though I've heard of it most of my life.  Upon seeing it at the library, I snatched it up thinking, "Finally!  I'll see this classic, award winning movie."

Husband and I watched it over two nights--though I'm not sure why, other than it's very long, and like most train-wrecks, it was hard to NOT finish watching it.

Our dialogue during this incredibly depressing, morose, moral failure of a movie, went something like this...

"This is horrible."

"Wow.  This is horrible."

"The whole thing is nothing but infidelity!"

"This is horrible."

Husband returned home tonight to inform me that all day he thought about this movie and how horrible it was.

Apparently, it won like five Academy Awards.  It was horrible!  Even the acting was bad.  The history was not even told in a manner that you could figure out what was happening.  It was wretched from the first scenes.  There was absolutely no redeeming quality about it.  The so-called famous "Somewhere My Love" song was repeated to such an absurd level that it became the montra for a cheating spouse.

In case you've never seen it, don't bother!  Did I mention it's horrible?!

I remember trying to watch this movie in the '80s when VHS first came out. I thought there was something wrong with me when I couldn't get through it! Glad to know someone else also thought it was horrid!

So let me get this straight-- you did NOT like this movie? ;-) Just kidding.

Now that I recall what the movie was about, I do remember thinking that it was horrible.

Another horrible movie that recently came out (not that I usually hardly ever watch a movie- let alone at the theater!) is No Country for Old Men. I think critics liked it but it was completely depressing, horrible, boring, dumb and just plain BAD. From the very beginning. Hubby and I sat through the whole thing thinking-- It'll get better in the end. We just have to make it to the end. What a waste of time and money! The ending was so bad it made the already-horrible movie even worse (like we thought that was ever possible!).

Well, sorry the movie was a bust. Sometimes it is best to stay away from the movies that critics like best. I think they just get bored sometimes and try to make their cush jobs seem more intellectual by picking movies that they know NORMAL people would hate.

I've learned that many many Academy Award Winners are horrible!
Sorry you had to suffer through it!

Hmmmm. So, how did you really feel about it? *giggle*

You know, so many of the movies that win awards wouldn't cut the mustard in our house. I'm not all that inclined to see it, with or without a review. But, it sure was good to read yours! *grin*

About Me

In the beginning there was a tree.
The Tree of Life.
When sin entered the world,
we no longer had access to that tree.
We waited for another tree.
The Cross.
Jesus, as the perfect sacrifice for our sins once again gives us access to the
Tree of Life.
But we have to wait.
Wait for Heaven.
Until then, we are...
Living Life Between The Trees.
