Affordable Musical Instruments

It has come to my attention that I have taken a great gift for granted.  The gift is having been raised in a music store.  A full-blown, every single instrument, lots of lessons, lots of weird people-music store!  What a huge blessing!  Now as I sit and look at my precious children, I'm thrilled for the experience and the chance for them to pick and play any instrument they wish--except for the drums, which we all know are Satan's tools! LOL (just kidding, in case you're wondering!)

I have watched the music industry struggle, survive, change and soar over many, many years as music was cut out of the public schools and parents had to accept responsiblity for their own children's music experiences.  Now, as homeschooling soars, and musically inclined people, or just good ole music lovers, have joined in the frey, there are private bands, orchestras, choirs and all the opportunities that are conceivable.  I'm sure next we'll hear about opportunities for private marching bands!

Anyway, I know people struggle with how to start their kids on instruments.  Little Johnny wants to play trumpet, but will he really--after you pay ALL that money?!  Well, about 20 years ago, my family's music store began leasing instruments.  Do NOT think car lease;  this is NOT you're daddy's car lease.  Finally, parents could pay a smaller fee for the school year, or full-year, and try a quality used instrument.  If Junior wanted to switch instruments, no problem.  In the case of orchestra instruments, kids grow fast and the size of the instruments needs to increase, often yearly. No problem.

Then, say Little Johnny loves his trumpet, is doing fabulous and you want to buy it?  Get all your lease fee back toward the purchase.  That's $89 for the full year, by the way.  NOT $35/month or $50/month!  One fee.  Also, for a small service fee, all repairs and maintenance are covered for the same period.  It is such a great deal!!

Here are the prices and details if interested.  Our store is called Smith-Holden Music and is located in Bloomington, Indiana.  My dad opened the store in 1962.

Please note that you would have shipping fees, but no tax as you are more than likely out of state.  Feel free to contact me if you would like my help or have more questions.  You can also call the store toll-free at 1-800-822-4818.  Ask for Mark (my brother) or George (my dad) and tell them you know me (Melissa) from homeschooling.

I hope this helps.  Music is such a tremendous blessing to any family!

How fun that you grew up in a music store!!! I could look at sheet music forever!!! I always have to look at all the pages in a book before I buy them and "play" the music in my head to make sure it is juuuuust right. :-)

Dh still makes fun of me for being in the band and orchestra...but I know he is really just jealous that he plays no musical instrument whatsoever... When (on rare occasion) I practice my flute, dh loves to listen to it and many times will fall asleep. He says it's because it's so soothing and relaxing and beautiful (blah blah blah) but I think it just makes him sleepy.

I'm still waiting for my kids to want to play an instrument...piano would be nice...but no interest yet. Let me know if you have any advice on that.

Love,
Marsha

I'm actually looking for a piano. My Mom lives in NYC and asked around and now she has two pianos people just gave to her. So, my question is, do you know of anyone who is looking to get rid of a piano in good condition in Indianapolis?

About Me

In the beginning there was a tree.
The Tree of Life.
When sin entered the world,
we no longer had access to that tree.
We waited for another tree.
The Cross.
Jesus, as the perfect sacrifice for our sins once again gives us access to the
Tree of Life.
But we have to wait.
Wait for Heaven.
Until then, we are...
Living Life Between The Trees.
