Women of the Bible

I am reading "Women of the Bible" by Frances Vander Velde.   It has been really interesting so far.  I've read about Eve, Sarai and am reading about Lot's wife.  I am tickled to find this book(at the library-surprise!!).  I have wanted to study this myself for a while.

I am thinking about asking a few of my friends to come to my house and maybe do this together in a few weeks.  I would love to hear more insights of other women on these "women".  I never really thought much about Lot's wife, but can you imagine your husband offering your daughters to men to do whatever.  I think I would have thrown Lot out(just joking!)!!  It just struck me-she didn't say anything or at least it isn't mentioned that she did.

It makes me sad because so much of the way Soddom and Gomorrah is described remindes me of our world today.  Oh, I pray for our children and young people today.  They need God in such a mighty way.   I pray that my sons will stay close to God.  I pray that the Lord is shaping and preparing 3 special young ladies for my boys to love one day.  Well, enjoy your Sunday!

Testing

We are testing this week.  The boys are taking the Cat 5 tests.  We took 3 tests on Friday and will do the rest on Tuesday and Wednesday.  I know it is not that big of a deal, but I am so nervous!!!

This is the first year they have taken them.  When we lived in Va. we were under religious exemption and were not required to take them.  I always felt like because I taught them I had an idea of how they were doing.  Also my M-I-L is a school teacher and has always commented on how well they are doing.

Have any of you felt this way?   I guess my fear is it will reflect that I am in some way failing as a teacher.  I was never good at taking tests and it seems my oldest is the same way(he's in the 4th ).  He hasn't read through some of the questions very well and has missed some.  I read through his answers and am like "You know that!!!", but have kept it to myself.   My biggest surprise has been my middle son.  I thought he would have a hard time, but has surprisingly done very well.  Of course in 2nd grade they have the teacher read the problems or talk them through the tests.   I would love to hear how some of you have felt during these tests!!!!

I can't wait for the test results!!!

Is it only Tuesday?

I feel as if today ought to be Thursday!!  Yesterday was a long day!!!   I taught an 8:30 Aqua aerobics, then we came home and did school until lunch.  We were then off to co-op for 2- 1/2 hours.  I came home fixed supper for my men and then ran off to teach a 6:00 aerobics class.  To top the evening off, we are having revival at our church(it was really refreshing).  It was a long day!!  Do you ever have those days that seem like they are two or three days long?  Well, that was my yesterday!!

I found a recipe on a blog I like to read.  It is for strawberry bread.  We made it and it is tasty.  Go to Marybeth's blog if you want the recipe. ( http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/MaryBeth/ )

We went strawberry picking this past Friday(we live near Wake county, NC).  A couple in our church has a farm and my boys really enjoyed picking them, though I think they should have weighed all of us before we went in the field and after!!  We ate a bunch and they were so juicy!!  If you can find a field to pick fresh ones it is well worth it!!  Take care and have a great day!!!

God's plans, not ours!

As I posted before my boys have been with my in-laws(coming home today!!!)  and my hubby had to work yesterday, so I made big plans for myself.

1.Get up late

2.Have devotions in bed

4.Exercise

5.Do some laundry(a girl needs clean clothes!)

6.Watch the new "Pride and Predjudice"movie "without interruptions".

Okay, so I get most of my list done, but during #6 on my list, I'm eating my lunch and I broke a tooth!!  Not just any tooth but one I had a root canal on 2 years ago!!! AAARRRGGHH!!!

So, I spent the rest of the afternoon in the dentist office!!!   Thank goodness they wherer able to work me in!!  Yesterday I learned 2 important lessons-  Your day is never truely your own and to be Thankful in the midst of troubles.

I hope everyone has a good day!  God bless!

A date with my hubby!!!

This week I gave my boys the week off. They are in West Virginia visiting my in-laws. I really miss them and the house is way too quiet!!!

So today, my hubby took the day off and spent it with me!!!  We had a blast!  We slept in late, then went to Raleigh and went shopping.  We ate out, then came home and worked outside. He is also planting me a rose garden.  I love roses!!  It also saves him from buying roses at the florists!!!

Isn't funny how we forget what it was like when we were dating?  I enjoy spending one-on-one time with him.  He often surprises me with what is on his mind or something he does.  I have to praise him and need to do it more often, because he is a really great guy!!  Have a great day!! Amy

Having an Attitude of Gratitude!!

God does like to step on toes doesn't He!!!   Yesterday, from the time I got up, I was ungrateful!!  Mondays are busy days for our family.  Every week,  I teach an 8:30 Aqua aerobics class in Raleigh, which is a 35-45 minute drive in the a.m.  So, we leave around 7:30.  I was grumbling about this even though the lifeguards are nice enough to take my boys up to the nursery, so they don't have to be bored in my class!  I love the people in the class, so why was I grumbling?   Then we had Co-Op at 1:30.  My boys love it and we all have fun.  Yet again, here I was grumbling.  On Monday evenings I teach an aerobics class in my home town and I really enjoy it, just not today.  Immediately after that I was to rush to a homeschool mom's meeting.   Yet, again I was fussing.

I finally took a minute to pray, before my evening class, it was here God met me with this...   I have a job where my boys are welcome to come with me.  We can fit school around my one hour class.  They are not going to daycare all day long.  I get to take my boys to a CO-OP which we didn't have when we lived in Va.  I also get to exercise and get paid for doing it.   I also get to spend some time with like minded women, who understand what I am going through.   Oh, I have so much to be thankful for.  So much more than I listed here, but this is what God showed me yesterday.  My hope for this week is to have a greater Attitude of Gratitude.

Please, Jesus help me to see all the blessings I have before me and appreciate them fully.   Amen

Prayers please!!

Well, just when things slow a bit down, life seems to speed up again!!!

My hubby has a decision to make and it has to be a prayerful one.  The church we are attending has asked my hubby to consider being the youth pastor when the currant one graduates from seminary this May.   He was a youth pastor for 4 1/2 years in Va. before we moved to NC for him to finish seminary.

God has been very good to us, but part of the reason we left Va. was so life could slow down a bit and for hubby to spend more time with the boys.  He has always served bi-vocational and this would be the same.   I am not against this, I just want us to do God's will.  There are good points to it,  I wouldn't have to work part-time and my work wouldn't disrupt school(see previous posts).  I just ask that anyone who reads this would say a prayer for us to find God's will.   God Bless, Amy

How many of you work outside the home?

I am just curious.  How many of you work outside your homes-part time, weekends and etc. ? Believe me, I know if you are home you are working-so I don't mean anything by the "work outside your home"thing!!!

I now work teaching aerobics about 5 times a week.  This is a new thing for me this year.  I have always been a stay at home mom.  They go with me some and the rest of the time the boys stay with daddy.  But, I am having a hard time with it.  Some days, school is split between my classes and I feel guilty for messing up school.  I'd like to hear how some of you do it and how you feel about it.     Amy

Funny things kids do....

Do you ever stop and think about the funny things your kids do and say?   As I was sitting here trying to think about what I wanted to say, my oldest gave me an idea!!

As you know from my previous post, that  Lincoln my oldest had stitches(in his knee).  He can't bend his knee for 10 days and the boys are playing soldier(in the house, no less!).  It was his turn to charge and instead of running, he did this funny skip thing.  It struck me funny, because he's playing a soldier and is skipping!!!

My youngest (Levi) when he was about 2 1/2  loved to wear cowboy boots!!!  One morning he got out of bed and strode into the living room wearing his cowboy boots, t-shirt, pacifier  and a pull-up with his little bottom hanging out on one side!! Too cute!

My middle son(Landon) has always loved vacuum cleaners!!  We have had many laughs over this.  When he was about eighteen months old he called them "the sweep" or "sweeps".  So, we were in the mall and happened to pass by a store that sold "sweeps".  Landon happened to see the "sweep" and yelled at the tops of his lungs for all to hear in the quiet mall- "Mommy, dee sweep".  At the time, I was a little embarassed, but now it is so funny.   Yes, he still loves vacuums and at age 8 owns three.    Any funny stories you'd like to share?

Crazy Weekend!!!

Boy, did we ever have a wild April Fools Day!!  It all started out innocent.  I taught 2 Aqua classes that morning for Mom and Baby and an Aqua Mom-to-Be.  They were a ton of fun(the babies were SO cute!!!).   In the afternoon, my hubby had to work 2nd shift, so the boys and I were outside enjoying the warm weather.  The boys were riding their bikes in our Cul-de-sac and the oldest went down a little too far and hit loose gravel.   Well, you can guess what happened next....  he came running, crying all the way.  He was holding his tummy, so I thought he'd scraped it up.  I put his shirt down and saw his leg.   It was really torn up and I knew we were headed for stitches.  He had six right across the middle of the knee.  Thank goodness he didn't have anything worse.  He did really well through all of it.  One of the best things about it was the Dr. and nurse were Christians!!!  Lincoln was wearing a shirt from church and the Dr. asked him, "Do you believe in Jesus?".  Lincoln said, "Yes", and the Dr. said "Just say a prayer and He'll help you through this."  Isn't that neat!!  It made it all of us feel better.  Now, Linc is milking this for all it's worth!!!  He has his brothers helping him left and right!!

I think I gained a few more gray hairs that day!!  I'm so glad April Fools day only comes around once a year!!!!

Yucky Tummy

Earlier this week, we had a mild stomach virus go through our house.  It mostly affected my husbad and me.  My boys really didn't get much of it.  But it is still affecting me!!  Why do somethings stick with you?   What do I need to do to get rid of the  crampy , hurting tummy?   I know you all  really wanted to hear all of this!!

In spite of a yucky tummy, I taught 3 classes this morning.  My hubby had to work 2nd shift at his plant( he's a supervisor), so he taught school this morning.  I love when he has to school with him.  It makes him realize how hard, but rewarding it is to school your children!!

Do any of you exercise?   I would love to hear what you do?  I am always looking for new ideas.  I do pilates at least 2 times a week (I teach 1 and do one on my own)and love it!!

Well, I hope you all are having a good day!! Enjoy the sunshine today!!!

Questions I am pondering!

Do you ever feel as if you don't know God's will in your life?  Do you also sometimes feel you have too many decisions to make and you aren't sure which is the right one?  I feel God is calling me to do something.  I'm not ready to share exactly what though(I'm chicken).  It does not pertain to my homeschooling.  I LOVE that.  I enjoy my boys!  Everything in my life is good.  Its just God tapping my shoulder.  I want clarification from Him.  Then after I know His will then I can make a clear decision.  I guess its called "waiting".  That is very hard to do.  It's funny, because Charles Stanley's devotion yesterday was on waiting! I don't know if being impatient is a by product of being hyper.   My mom always said to me "You want tomorrow, today!"!!   Although I'm not impatient about everything.  There are things I can be patient about.  I am more patient with my boys (and my hubby to extent!).  My prayer for today is:  Lord, please give me your guidance.  Show me your will and help me to wait on you.  Help me to focus just on you and all I need to do today and not what comes tomorrow.  In Jesus name, I ask this.  Amen

Amy

PS- I haven't exercised today! No wonder my mind is so busy!!!!

Hello

Hi all!! Wow that was quick to set up!  I am so new at this!! I had no idea what a blog was until a couple of weeks ago!

I thought I'd tell you a little about myself. I am a Christian. I am also a homeschool mom of three boys ages-Lincoln 9,Landon 8 & Levi 6.  My hubby Sean and I have been  married almost 12 years!

Aside from homeschooling my boys, and keeping house, I also teach several different forms of exercise classes.  Aerobics, aqua, body sculpt and pilates.  I enjoy it, it helps me have energy to keep up with everyone in my family.   It also helps me get rid of nervous energy (I'm sort of hyper!!!).

I love teaching my boys and this year has been a struggle, because up until now I was a full time SAHM.  I know my classes only take me away from home a total of 5 hours a week, but I still have a hard time!!  Change is good, but also hard at the same time!

Thanks for listening to me ramble.  I look forward to hearing from some of you!!

Amy
