resting... (pictures included)

Day #2 of a BIG SLEEP for Charity.  Of course, she is most likely still "awake" and alert underneath that paralyzing drug, but she isn't moving for now.  The nurses watch her very closely to make sure that she is comfortable, measured by her blood pressure and heart rate.  We had a little drama this morning as her oxygen saturation levels dropped rapidly and there was a lot of blood needing to be suctioned out.  But, the x-ray showed nothing amiss and once she was given a tad bit more oxygen she remained at a nice high level the rest of the day.

She looks like Sleeping Beauty, resting on her little princess bed, waiting for the prince to awaken her :)  She began eating today through the g-tube after about five days of no food.  I am sure she is grateful!

Charity's nurse has been especially kind the past few days allowing Ellie and Chloe to 'help' her in the many nursing duties.  Ellie was delighted to help drain the pee-pee today and both of them enjoy a trip to the pharmacy to pick up Charity's latest drug...several of Charity's nurses and doctors have gone above and beyond in relation to our family.  They have been so kind and compassionate toward our children, helping them to make sense of everything, and making the time spent at the hospital fun and enjoyable.  We will never forget these people - the ones who do our girls' hair, and take time to explain every procedure, as well as put up with our constant noise and filing in and out of Charity's room.  What could have been an incredibly traumatic experience has instead been full of unexpected delights and new friends!

May. 30, 2009 - alert while sleeping...

Posted by Grandma Alice

I wonder what she is thinking beneath that apparent sleep.... I'm glad the drama was resolved quickly and she is now OK. Dad showed a picture of her during his sermon tonight, and got lots of ooos and ahhhs. I'm sure tomorrow will be the same. Many people in our church are praying!
See you soon...
Love, Mom

She looks wonderful! Everyone in my family asks about her by name. I look forward to hearing updates once she is able to come off of the paralyzing agent!

Praise the Lord for good nurses! I am so thankful God has blessed you with nurses that work the with family and really care about their patients. May these next few days go quickly and without any problems. Glad Charity got to "eat" finally! What a precious little one. Continuing to pray for complete healing.

From Psalm 40
I waited patiently for the Lord; He inclined to me and heard my cry. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. May all who seek Thee rejoice and be glad in Thee; may those who love thy salvation say continually, "Great is the Lord!"
