My New Cirriculum Has Arrived!

Quote of the Day: I saw behind me those who had gone, and before me, those who are to come. I looked back and saw my father, and his father, and all our fathers, and in front, to see my son, and his son, and the sons upon sons beyond. And their eyes were my eyes. -Richard Llwellyn (How Green Was My Valley)

Yesterday was the first day in a while I didn't blog! I could say the heat made me too lazy, but actually I was kind of busy. We had six kids in the house. How do you moms of large families do it? With our usual four, it's pretty quiet. But six was a madhouse. Maybe it's because two of them were visitors. If we had six all the time, would it be very much calmer? Probably. Or we'd be so used to it we wouldn't notice, maybe...

I always hear people say "if you could bottle their energy..." or "if you could hook them up to generators..." Man, those 4 boys in the middle have energy that is just unbelievable. They run, jump, scream, and squirm every single second. It has to be seen to be believed!

This one is from the day before yesterday. Chim-Chim is driving Hamps (who's nickname has morphed into "Hampster") around in his PowerWheels. He gets some amazing speed on that thing, even in our rough, weedy yard. Hampster is holding a toy (dull) plastic fireman's axe. She was waving it around as her brother sped her around the yard.

I've recieved my Rainbow Resource order! (SOOOO exciting!) Some of the stuff I ordered, I love! I got more activities for Funtastic Frogs counters. That is our Pre-K/K math cirriculum. You can get some of the stuff at Rainbow and a whole bunch of it from

www.idealschoolsupply.com . They are great because you can sort them, weigh them (they come in graduated weights), string them, snap them in groups of ten on logs, they have holes in the bottom to be finger puppets, and they also come with a whole bunch of workbooks. Excellent, relaxed, preschool/kindergarten math which is very flexible as to a child's level and understanding!

I also love the Kid's Day by Day Bible (the core of our Bible studies this year), as well as the set of 5 books of comparative religion which we will study in place of regular history next year in grade 4. The Calculus for Young People is.... well, scary. I have yet to watch the video and I hope that makes it all comprehensible. I'm in for a lot of studying. That is why I always try to order my cirriculum a year ahead. That is what I hope to do for fourth grade. I'll NEED the year to learn how to teach it!

Did you ladies hear that today a boa-constrictor went in to surgery on account of his swallowing an entire queen-size electric blanket, controls and all? The truth really is stranger than fiction...  I will pray for the poor, dumb thing.
