Got Chalk?

Quote of the Day: Who rises from prayer a better man, his prayer is answered. -George Meredith

The question is no longer, "paper or plastic?" The question for us homeschooling ladies is, "chalkboard or whiteboard?" This article from the newspaper in Cinncinnati explains how schools are no longer installing that icon of the schoolhouse, the chalkboard, and instead are putting whiteboards with dry-erase markers in their classrooms:

What about all you HSB moms? For myself, I have a chalkboard which I do write things on on occassion, but mostly I've used it to distract the young ones by letting them scribble on it. We have a small stack of whiteboards, each a little larger than a piece of binder paper, and we use those for a lot of math work, or correcting sentences, or unscrambling words, etc. They are the modern version of the old one-room schoolhouse slate. (The difference being, back then you couldn't get high by sniffing the chalk...) Tell me what you think!

I have a confession, I use my large bay window! I have a dry erase marker and I write on the window. At night you can really see where we didn't erase quite well enough...It works and saves space! LOL

Aug. 8, 2006 - chalk boards

We have a small, lap top sized chalk board. Something about chalk makes it fun for us. In Honduras we had painted on one cement block wall with green "chalk board paint" which made the entire wall one HUGE chalk board! That was great. I miss that.
