Gnarf-Hunting

Quote of the Day: Sow an act and  you reap a habit. Sow a habit and you reap a character. Sow a character and you reap a destiny. -Charles Reade

I decided to start the day with archery before oldest son goes off to public school (sigh.) I drew a goblin-like face on a paper grocery bag and stuffed it tightly with crumpled newspaper. I stapled it closed and hung it in a tree, and told the boys there was a dangerous "gnarf" in one of the trees and the only way it could be killed was with an arrow. So they got their bows and hunted around outside for it and shot it. The boys had a blast! Usually they just shoot at bales of straw. That can be a real yawn. They also shot at some over-ripe squash once that my husband arranged for the purpose. The arrows make a satasfying "thunk" when they go in to those. My mom suggested putting up water balloons for them to shoot at. That would be a blast, I think!
