Classic Homeschooling Moment

My third-grade son is doing his first country report. This morning, I handed him the atlas and told him to choose any country except the U.S. on which to write a report while I left and took care of the baby. When I came back, he announced he would be writing about Zambia. That struck me as a suspicious choice, so I asked him, "You realize, of course, that there aren't any actual zombies in Zambia?" His incredulous silence told me that I was right on the money. "Fine," he says, "I'll do Japan."

Why would anyone stick their kids in public school and miss this stuff?

I'm laughing out loud here, which is causing my children to stumble out of a room with the nosy, I-wanna-know-what's-so-funny-too look on their faces. I so have moments like these!! Too funny!

Also a little irritated that I've found your blog, as I was on such a roll around the house this morning, and it looks too interesting to just read your current post and let it goooo. I'll have to bookmark it and come back later, otherwise I'll be on this thing all morning, lol!!!

Looking foward to getting to know you! :)

That is so cute!!! Btw... I read your last post on OT, don't feel guilty about getting help through the school district. We thought we were going to have to do that too. Out 4 year old was in the county early intervention program and he did not test into the preschool program because he was preforming at and above average in most areas, but he was about to under go neck surgery and be in a brace from 6+ months. At the school they told us that they would reconsider after he had surgery and probably work him in. As it turned out we didn't need the service. After 7 1/2 months of being in the brace he only needed a few therapy sessions and we chose to keep him with the girl he already knew and who understand his case. But if it had been long term, we would have had to go through the school. Therapy is expensive and insurance usually doesn't pay too well for it!!! Good luck!

I love it! I think I might try your idea of picking any country with my kids to spice things up a bit. We have been mapping with the MOH curriculum so far this year..
