Writing Assignment #8
Little Red Riding Hood lived with her 30-year-old mother in a small
cottage in the woods. Ivy climbed and weaved around the cottage. One day
she set out to bring her grandmother a basket of food. Mother packed a
fresh loaf of bread, a few slices of bologna, and a thermos of hot, steaming
cocoa in the basket. Red Riding Hood left the cottage and wandered along
the path through the deep, dark forest. Her stomach fluttered at the
shadows. Suddenly, from behind a tall fir tree, a dark, shaggy creature with
pointed ears and a mouth full of sharp teeth appeared. It was a wolf!
Sorry, I read the "Do you agree" page before I did it! Oops!
Fishing in the creek on a summer’s day
Man, I thought this would be fun! The sun is prickling down my neck, I haven't caught a single fish, and my arms are getting tired from dangling the pole above the water! But look at the bright side! The sky is a bold, light blue, and it makes the green-blue water sparkle. Across the creek, laid a soft, green carpet of moss. This, I decided, might of been a good fishing trip after all!

Writing Assignment #7
BEFORE: It rained all week during our camping trip.
AFTER: We were in the car when it all happened. The clouds blocked out the light-blue sky. Then the watery raindrops fell from the black, angry clouds. The rain sounded like plip, plop, plip, plop, on our blue sedan's
shiny roof. I tried to wash the fact out of my brain that we probably won't be having any fun on THIS camping trip.
BEFORE: Katy saw a scary sea creature at the aquarium.
AFTER: four-year-old Katy Gibson held her mother's soft hand as she walked into the local aquarium. She stared at the Great-White shark that hung over her head. It was the size of an elephant, with two little, piggy eyes and rows and rows of white, pointy teeth. Her eyes grew big as she whimpered and steered her mother's hand the opposite direction.
BEFORE: As I entered the cave, I found the object of my search—the lost
treasure chest of the Ancients.
AFTER: I spied a cave, half hidden by leafy branches, so I went inside. Just inside the cave stood a four-hundred year old ceder chest. The wood was green, and that indicated that the wood was rotten, so I sped out of the cave, and grabbed a branch with a hooked end. The inside of me was bubbling with excitement as I ran towards the dim cave and cracked opened the mysterious box. I felt myself gasp as I looked inside. It was the long lost golden anchor that ruined the Galkone family!

DEAD WORDS: funny, strange,hard, soft,flat
ROOM TOUR: As you walk into my room, you would first notice my pink carpet. It would be bright pink, and it would feel almost like an old fleece blanket, spread on a hardwood floor. As you look up from the carpet, you would see a small door, made of some kind of caramel-colored wood. You would open it in curiosity, and find that it is a narrow tunnel, but looks like an attic, and is as skin-tingling hot, or as freezing cold as the weather is. You would close the little wood door, and turn a 90 degree angle to the right. There you would find, a quite simple little bed, made of dark brown wood, and covered with a quilt sprinkled with a soft pink shower of flowers, and a few tiny yellow and black butterflies, hovering over the top of the flowers. You would also find four gray windows , two on the bottom, two on the top. You would look out them, and would see a big backyard. Then you will have decided you have stayed there long enough, and would walk out of my room, and then went down the stairs

How the Library Makes a Difference in My Life
By Emy Rosie
The library, as I like to think of it, is a door into the world. I could learn about anything and everything. I like to read in peace and quiet, and the library provides that for me, along with thousands of interesting books to read.
Reading at the library opens a door to learning. I look around in the aisles to find a book in which I can learn something. My favorite thing to learn is history. In fact, I could probably tell you some history of the public library.
The first known public library was made by the Assyrians from 1500-600 B.C. The Assyrians wrote accounts of important events, literature, and other subjects on clay tablets. Benjamin Franklin brought up the whole concept again in the 1700s. Now public libraries are all over the United States.
When my mom needs a break from her five kids, she sometimes chooses to go to the library. I think that is because the library is quiet and she likes to read. My-ten-year old brother likes Encyclopedia Brown mysteries, and my two other brothers like to look at picture books. My youngest brother, who is almost two, likes touch-and-feel books, and my four year old brother likes lift-the-flap books. I personally like pioneer-style books like the Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder.
My mother started reading Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books to me when I was about four. I began to love the 1800s and wanted to learn about what the pioneers did to survive. Earlier this year my mom brought home a book called Pioneer Days. There was a lot of information about pioneers like Laura.
We went to Branson, Missouri, for an early summer vacation, and when we were there, we went to Silver Dollar City. It is an amusement park with a “pioneer-style” theme. I was able to understand and answer many questions the re-enactors had for the crowd, and I was able to ask many questions based on what I learned at the library.
On the way home, we visited Laura Ingalls Wilder’s last house, in Mansfield, Missouri. Our trip inspired me to read Laura’s books again, and I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the library, as I didn’t own all the books. And even though our trip came to an end, thanks to the library, having history coming alive in books, videos, and crafts won’t.

Writing Assignment #2
My favorite character in the Laura Ingalls Wilder series is Laura because she is a tomboy and has many adventures! She shows that she was loving, kind, and she knew not to lose her head when times were tough!
My least favorite character is Nellie Oleson (Did you know her real name was Nellie Owens?) because she was snobby and the complete opposite of Laura in every way!
