A Glimpse Of My World

Jan. 26, 2008 - The Feminine Challenge

Fearlessly Feminine and Female

I love my skirts--and I also love my jeans. But I've always had a special love for my skirts because they make me feel so feminine and lady-like. In the summer I wear lots of skirts (plus my capris.)  I simply adore light, flowing, medium-length skirts. They are absolutely my favorite and are lovely to wear in the summer. But now that it's winter, I haven't hardly worn any skirts except on Sundays because of the cold. On a chilly day, if I have to pick from wearing my jeans and keeping my legs warm, or wearing a flowy skirt, I most times go for the jeans. But I've really missed my skirts! There's something so special about skirts and cute dresses.

I was looking around Christian sites and blogs today, and I came across something I thought was really neat: ladies who wear dresses/skirts regularly who shared on their blog what they wore and did each day with pictures.

This is what they said about it at Ladies Against Feminism:

This section is here to inspire you and encourage you as you seek to dress in a uniquely feminine way every day. The idea for this weekly "journal" came about as LAF fielded questions from women who said it simply wasn't practical or realistic to "go feminine" in our culture or with all the things we have to do at home and in our communities. The photos shared here will demonstrate that it isn't just practical; it is fun and beautiful to dress in a distinctively feminine manner on a daily basis. Lovely garments aren't just for church!

http://www.ladiesagainstfeminism.com/artman/publish/Reader_Favorites_26/Through_the_Week_in_Feminine_Dress1002547.shtml

(
I found another place too where young ladies were doing it where they called it, "Winter Week in Feminine Dress.")

LOVE it!

These ladies look so beautifully feminine in their dresses and skirts! And yes, you can do almost about anything in them. I think it's a  very neat idea. Some might think it's weird and probably wonder how they'd survive or manage in a skirt all week: but let me tell ya, you can do practically anything in a skirt. Of course, there's particular activities that might make it harder in a dress/skirt, but most ladies will agree that skirts don't limit your abilities to do everyday things.

I think striving to wear all skirts or cute dresses for a solid week would be an awesome challenge.

So, I thought it would be neat, just like these ladies, to try wearing only wearing skirts/dresses. I think it would be interesting to try it for an entire week. No matter what your age: I hope you'll join us!  My sister Holly and I are going to do it this week starting Monday.  I don't know if anyone would like to join us, but if you do, I'm going to start my own "skirt goal/challenge" and start what I am going to call the "
Fearlessly Feminine and Female Challenge," for all you fellow female teens. I hope you'll join us.

The Challenge:  to wear only skirts/dresses for an entire week (7 days.)   Post some pictures on your blog and show us some of your outfits. If you don't have exactly 7 different skirts, that's o.k. Mix and match with your shirts. If you'd like, post every day of your challenge week and show us what you wore like the other ladies in the links above did. (I am hoping to do so.) And be creative!  You can easily be modest and fashionable at the same time.  Being modest and feminine doesn't mean wearing a skirt that covers your toes and a shirt that comes all the way up to your neck, and has dull colors. No! You can be modest, feminine, lovely, beautiful and stylish all at the same time! So, be creative! Throw in some accessories. Put on a hat if you want; Dress up with some jewelry or earrings, fix your hair in a lovely do. Show us how you can look modest and feminine, yet with some added style.

For those who already wear skirts everyday:

If you already wear skirts regularly, please participate anyway! This is for all females. Show us how you mix and match your clothes, what type of fabric skirts you like best (blue jean, cotton, etc.), your favorite skirts and outfits, etc.  We'd love to hear about it!

For an extra challenge:

-Venture out in your attempts to be fearlessly feminine!
-Fix your hair a different way each day of the challenge week. Must not be the same in all 7 days (that means 7 different hair-styles). Be creative and try new hair dos  :-)   Take a picture and show us.
-Wear a different pair of earrings if you have pierced ears, each day, or if you don't, a different piece of accessory.
-Show us pictures of daily activities of you in your skirts

The Goal of the challenge:

-
Venturing out for one week to be fearlessly feminine in the way you dress
-Experiencing a week of skirts/dresses and comparing it to your regular ways of dress and style
-Evaluating yourself at the end of the week and comparing it to your regular way of dress: how was the experience for you? Any particular stories? Did wearing skirts rather than pants affect the way you felt? The way you felt about yourself? The way you acted? The way you carried yourself? Were you able to go about everyday activity as freely as pants? How did people respond? Were you more respected? Did you feel more like a lady? After the challenge do you desire to keep wearing skirts more regularly, or were you desperate to wear pants again? ETC.
-Sharing with other girls your outfits and give ideas of mixing and matching
-Showing how beautiful female femininity actually is

So, to recap if you want to do the challenge with us:

-Wear a skirt everyday for 7 days starting at the beginning of the week (I am starting Monday, but you can start whenever)
-Post a picture each day and show us what you wore and if you want to venture out, how you did your hair, and any other creative things you did or accessories you used to be fashionable
-At the end, share with us how it went. Answer some questions from above like: Did wearing skirts than pants affect the way you felt? The way you acted? The way you carried yourself? Share with us about the experience.

Show the world how you can be
Fearlessly Feminine and Female!

I hope you'll do it with us! Give it a try! If you do, please link your blog entry so all of us can come see!

Name: Anna Naomi from her link above:

Wearing dresses has also made me feel more feminine and womanly. It helps me act like a young woman, for there are certain things one simply just doesn't do in a dress!

I'm not saying that pants are bad, or that I'll never wear them again. In fact, there are some things that I will wear pants to do, such as when I'm choreographing dances at home. I'm just sharing how moving dresses to the primary part of my wardrobe has changed me, and made me truly feel... like a lovely young woman.

From the link above:  Will you give this transforming idea a chance? Put on a pretty feminine dress. If you need to cook don’t take it off, just slip on an apron. You’ll be amazed how much more you’ll want to make the make the world sweet and beautiful, when you embrace another aspect of God's purpose and design in your life.

Great idea! I already wear skirts most days, but I'll join you in your challenge! :-)
One great way to stay warm in skirts is to wear thin capris or leggings under them. (No one can even see the capris, and leggings aren't noticable.) :-)
Well, have a great day!

Hello Brooke,
I read about your challenge.... what a fun idea. I already wear skirts everyday, but not because I am against pants, no I wear then because they are more comfortable and I can make them easier then pants.
Plus I to me, they are warmer because you can add petticoats, stocking ect...underneath and nobody knows...:) Oh, I like to wear leather riding boots with them (for warmth) so that works well also..

It will be fun to see what everyone posts about...
Good idea for the challenge...

I hope you have a wonderful day!
Sincerely,
Brielle

A tip to keep warmer while wearing a dress is to wear leggings under it. That is what some of us girls do, and it is pretty nice, sometimes, because where we live, it gets really windy and cold!

I will try to remember to have my mom take pictures of my outfits everyday. But it won't be a challenge for me because I do not wear jean pants :) If you look at my 2007 review post I even proved I could climb a rock wall and ride a bull in a skirt just because people said I couldn't do it.. (I know not very feminine but I am a tom boy at heart :) )

Ooh, thank you! Unfortunately I cannot post every day, but I will try out the challenge! Right now actually I am wearing one of my favorite, most comfortable dresses in my wordrobe, and a few weeks ago I wore a green skirt instead of pants. For some reason I feel more energetic and free while I wear them; I just wish most stores would produce longer skirts and modest dresses nowadays.

Hey Brooke, that sounds like a great challenge! I would really love to try it. I really need to do a new post anyway, so I'll try to do something tomorrow. I loved the rest of your post too. When I have more time I'll have to check out some of the links you posted. Thanks for letting me know!

Hey Brooke...

I like the new look of your blog. It looks like you can't wait for spring! The flower is great.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to participate in your challenge. I do hope you understand. My family might think me a little strange if I started wearing skirts! ;-)

I do think it's a great idea though. Many of the teens and young ladies in society don't think modesty is important, but it is!!! It's encouraging to see some young ladies that care.

In Christ...

I already wear skirts everyday...but I think its so cool that yall are willin to try it! All of my friend wore jeans but seein me in a skirt got them hooked so now they all wear skirts too! Skirts will allow you to do just about anything...have you ever heard of culottes? Or sometimes they are called divided skirts. They are nice to have when you cant wear a skirt....its almost like wearin long shorts (depending on the kind). Have fun and let us know how you do with your challenge!! GOOD LUCK!

Wow! I love this!!!! It's great! Even though I wear skirts everyday, I'll do it anyway! : ) Though, in the summer, I sometimes wear overalls to work in the garden and sometimes I wear them in the winter, not very often but, like you I special love for my skirts because they make me feel so feminine and lady-like. : )
Well, hope you have a wonderfully blessed day!

lots of hugs,
Jordan Lee

Hey!!! I'm just starting today, well that's when I heard about it today, and I just happen to be wearing a skirt. Uhh, do we have to post pictures of what we do in the skirts??? Do we have to do it in one post or can we just post pictures each day of what we put on and everything??? Well, if it's ok to do that then I would want to do a post each day of what I'm wearing. Oh and can I use the rules for your post on my blog??? Well bye!!!

This is a great challenge, Brooke. Too bad I missed the first two days.
Although I already wear skirts all the time everywhere. haha... I will try and mix it up.
I don't think I will be able to post everyday or even get pictures. We don't have our camera. My dad took it to NM. Sorry!
Anyway, great challenge. I really hope this gets the girls to be more femine and love it!
yeah I couldn't stand Scarlet. I think that is why I didn't finish it. She is despicable.

I wear skirts almost every day, and last year, long denim skirts seemed to be coming back in style, so my sister and I bought alot. This year though, we can't find any! I've made a few out of jeans. Has anyone else done that?
