Indianapolis Children's Museum Homeschool Programs
Please join us as we explore topics with a variety of activities and experiments that are sure to educate and excite you. These Family experiences are recommended for children 3 and older and pre-registration is required to participate. A registered adult must accompany the children.
Programs are offered September through May 2007/2008.

Stories from the Hearth Home School Program
Families tell stories to teach, entertain or create a legacy. Spend a delightful afternoon with one of America’s most celebrated storytellers, Donald Davis! Mr. Davis performs some of his original and heart-warming tales, followed by a storytelling workshop for families. Everyone will learn how to turn memories into stories to share with others (ddavisstoryteller.com)

Ooey Gooey Chemistry Home School Program
Some cool chemistry concoctions can be made right in your kitchen, but others require safety precautions of a laboratory setting. At this program, older participants – ages 8 and up – work with a professional scientist to create an actual polymer called Jiggle Jelly. Younger children have fun making and experimenting with Outrageous Ooze. Participants leave with some great recipes for kitchen chemistry and the motivation to develop their own inquiries. The Jiggle Jelly workshops are sponsored by The American Chemical Society through their financial and volunteer support.

Making a Difference Home School Program
The museum’s newest permanent exhibit, The Power of Children, celebrates the lives of Anne Frank, Ruby Bridges and Ryan White – children who showed extraordinary courage in the face of adversity and prejudice. As we tour this inspirational space, listen to an exhibit developer describe its origins and goals. Each family will develop their own Action Plan for making the world a better place and add their own unique pledge to the exhibit’s Tree of Promise.

Pop Bots: Fun with Robots Home School Program
Discover how robots have evolved from characters in science fiction to actual rovers on distant planets. Don’t miss the opportunity to have a close-up glimpse of objects from the museum’s amazing robot collection. Then, use your imagination to construct robots out of recycled materials, or assemble an edible Mars spacecraft. Visit the Robots + Us exhibit to learn how these amazing artificial devices have changed people’s lives.

CSI: Curious Scientific Investigators Home School Program
Can you solve the Case of the Mysterious Stain? We’ll visit the museum’s Biotechnology Learning Center and use science methods, skills and tools to determine where in the museum a spill occurred. The answer can be found by investigating the properties of water: temperature, density, volume and color.

Fitness Fun Frolic Home School Program
Learn how to lead a healthy and active family lifestyle. Work with a yoga instructor and explore the poses of Cat-Cow, Down-Dog and Wheel. Participants will receive a pedometer and be inspired to increase the number of steps they take across a whole day. Get started during the program’s Family Relays

Peeking at Plants Home School Program
Were you aware scientists believe that the oldest known living organism on Earth is a tree? There were many fascinating plants all around us and we depend on them for food and to make the oxygen we breathe. Using your senses, explore the world of seeds, flowers and plants, and learn how museum staff care for the trees and greenery on our grounds.

Fiesta! Cinco de Mayo Home School
Did you know that Cinco de Mayo is not Mexican Independence Day? Have fun exploring the history of this Mexican holiday and immerse your family in the in the colorful aspects of Cinco de Mayo fiesta. Celebrate traditional Mexican art, food and folklore, and learn authentic Spanish dancing from a professional performer.
