Getting up early
In the past I was always a late to bed late to rise kind of gal. It was not uncommon for me to then be in my pjs until nearly lunch time. When I started schooling the dc I can remember being on the phone with a friend and commenting that I needed to get off and get dressed then do school so my dc didn't remember me always being in pjs. This comment seemed to awaken me to the need to dress earlier on a regluar basis. I don't think my older dc remember me spending half my day in my pjs.
The late to bed and late to rise habit did not change. I always required about 8-9 hours of sleep and very rarely did we go to bed before 11:30 and more often it was 12:30-1:00. Getting my 8-9 hours in meant that I didn't get up until about 9:00 or after.
Off and on I have read how getting up earlier would make for a better day. I have tried and failed many times. In the last year or so I have been more committed to trying it and my body clock seems to finally be adjusting. I also don't seem to need as much sleep as I always thought I did. I have been getting up at 6:00 pretty consistently for a few months now. I am amazed how much I get done in a day and how much smoother the day is when I have gotten up early.
The other part in having a good day seems to be doing the first 5 things on my list when I have said they should be done. The rest of the schedule can go by the wayside but if I do those 5 things done on time the day still goes smoothly.
Those 5 things are:
1) getting out of bed at 6:00 2) showering first 3) starting my quiet time by 6:30 4) spending only 30 minutes on the computer 5) waking the dc at 8:00
