She has been caught!

Posted in Everyday Events

Our second oldest (a daughter) is a little slow in getting her school work done.  She always does it well but not quickly.  As she has entered high school the workload has increased and she doesn't always get it finished.  For a while now I have wondered if I am giving too much work or if it is her not staying focused.

Monday she came to me and asked if she could do something with a friend on Tuesday afternoon.  When she asked she was about 5 days behind on some subjects.  We discipline for not getting school done by taking away the use of one thing (TV, computer, phone, social activities..) each day they are behind.  They don't get them back until they are caught up.  She knew she couldn't do anything until all of her work was done.

On Tuesday morning she got right to it.  She managed to get everything caught up and do the work for that day. Imagine that!

This morning I told her my questioning was over.  I now know she can do the work I am assigning each day and I could probably assign a little more.  I am not sure she was thrilled with the new revelation.

LOL- isn't it amazing what they can get done when they put their mind to it? ;-) Of course, I suppose the same thing could be said for us too, right?
I've been having similar struggles with my 12yo. I told him this morning that if he isn't done his school work by 3:00, there will be no X-box time for him today. He's working hard now!

Oh, you had to relate it to me didn't you. :) I know I could get more done if I set my mind to doing what I should be doing.

BUSTED!! Ut oh...well at least now you know the truth about her capabilities so you won't be feeling sorry for her if she chooses to be slack.

As for the other thing, kinda reminds me of *impending house guest* clean ups...seems we can get it all done in a relatively short amount of time when we have incentive. Ick..

I often wonder if I am asking too much of my distracted child too...but I think you've discovered the answer with your dd. And I am the same way...there are days, well actually weeks, when I hardly manage to wash a load of clothes and get supper on the table...but others when I get an incredible amount of work done. *sigh* What does that say about me?

Isn't amazing how their abilities suddenly change when there is an incentive? Same thing happens here. LOL

ROFL Busted is right! WTG on sticking to your guns though. I bet she was knocking her head on the preverbial wall, after realising how much info she gave dear Mum ... LOL.
