Two of our children played on the basketball teams that our church runs as an outreach ministry.
For our daughter this was a new experience. She is a Freshman and has never played basketball before. She really enjoyed the experience and we saw her grow through it.
Our son is only in 6th grade but he played on the Junior High team. He didn't play a lot of minutes but he did enjoy the time he was able to play. We found it better than going with the Upward league again this year for him.
Last night we had the awards banquet for them. The boys Varsity, Junior Varsity and Junior High team as well as the girls team and cheerleaders were represented. For each team all of the kids receive a trophy. Here Daniel is holding the trophy he received while the rest of the boys look on. (He is wearing a red and navy shirt.)
And here is Katelyn being introduced by her coach and about to receive her trophy.
After the general trophy they hand out 2 special trophies per team. The first is the MVP award. It is given to the person who has contributed the most to the team. The second is the Shining Knight award. Our team is called the Knights so it is a bit of a play on words. This is given to the person who exhibits Christian character on the team. They are an encourager and someone the others can go to. Katelyn won that for the basketball team! We are very proud of her.
Here she is receiving the Shining Knight award. (She is wearing the green sweater.)
That is so great they all get trophies!
On our pee wee teams everyone gets medals at the end of the season.
I'm sure you are very proud of your daughter!
Blessings, Dawn
