Pantry Principle recipes--spaghetti

Spaghetti Bolognese (pronounced "bo-lo-nyai-sie"--which is fancy for "spaghetti noodles with meat sauce") for 12-14:

2.5 lbs dry spaghetti noodles--cooked

2 lbs browned hamburger--I take the frozen hamburger, add a small amount of water in the pan, and cook it, scraping the cooked portions off of the frozen mass as I go.

Then I add:

5 cans tomato paste, plus 2 cans of water

Seasonings to taste--onion powder, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper

I simmer this for a few minutes, while we are setting the table, getting some garlic bread ready, etc.

Then we assemble and eat!

Pantry Info...

4:06 PM, Aug. 21, 2006 .. Posted by Mrs. Meg Logan
Thank you so much for all this information regarding your pantry. I have recently been baking my own bread (bread machine!) and making meals which require more effort and time (up to an hour), but are from basics instead of more instant types. It was very useful to me to see how much food is required to feed such a large family. One question, do you have to replenish all of this every month? Or do you only semi-deplete every month? And if you dont mind me asking, how much does it cost to feed your whole family every month? I want a large family, (not sure Im ready for 14! but 7 or so sounds good!... guess its up tp God though.) Thanks for sharing all this info. I think I might go to this sort of shopping style too... it sure would be good for my life! We are on the meal plan style, and sometimes i swap meals between days but, basically I only buy what I intend to cook for that week... how do you separate your budget? Like, percentage for pantry percentage for fresh stuff?? That could help me a bundle!

Peace,

Mrs. Meg Logan
