Daddy's "Aha" moment

It has been wonderful having my husband work from home this last year. There have been a few things both of us have had to get used to, but they were so minor they are not worth mentioning.

Today was one of those wonderful times that never would have happened if his office weren't right next to the garage. Ellie, our cute little 6yo, was encouraged by her Daddy to pick up a book and read it the other day. She told us all, "Daddy told me I can probably read, I just don't know it." So this morning she plucked herself down beside her 8yo sister, Sarah, and began to read Dr. Seuss' "The Foot Book" from cover to cover without faltering. I was busy at the time, and didn't hear the initial reading, so when she bragged about it, I didn't pay too much attention.

Then she sat next to me and read the whole thing, just as before. I was so excited I just about jumped up and down! I have never given her any formal instruction, although since she was 4 she has asked me to point to the words as I read to her, and also she pays close attention when I am helping out the other children. But there she was, reading like a pro!

Of course, since Daddy was home, all we had to do was rush into his office and have her read aloud to him as well--we all giggled with glee as she read page after page, and the delight on his face was worth a million dollars. How precious it was to share this wonderful moment with him, when all these years he had been gone from our home and missed out on the "aha's".

It is so wonderful having someone so dedicated to share each child with. I couldn't be the mother I am without his masculine support.

Thank You, Jesus, for my husband.

It's a dream & hearts desire to have my sweet husband nearby. Only Jesus knows when & how that may happen. But, I lift it up in prayer often, so you just never know what's around the corner. What does your husband do so close to home? I also want to comment that I just found your blog & I've been very blessed by it thus far! I love to hear stories from those with larger families!! Thanks for making your home available to us. :-)

My husband is the "administrative assistant to the regional superintendent" for our denomination for 7 states. They asked us to bring the office into our home to save money, and, even though we had originally been using the room as our 6th bedroom, we decided that the sacrifice was worth it!

I hope your husband can come home someday, too. It took us many years--23 to be exact--and it wasn't by our doing.

God bless you!

Sherry
