For Today...

Outside my window...the black of night. Ooops! I almost forgot to do my Daybook! We had our 1st snowfall this morning, just a dusting, & it melted by around 2p.m.

I am thinking...how grateful I am to have a warm home on cold, cold nights.

I am thankful for...a friend from our church who invited me out to Wal Mart w/her this afternoon, just to talk a get to know each other a little better.

From the kitchen...I just pulled a fresh load of flaxseed bread out of the over about 10 minutes ago. Ahhhh, NOTHING smells like fresh baked bread!

I am wearing...jeans, blue & white socks, navy turtlenect shirt & a Christmasy-multi-colored cardigan sweater.

I am remembering…that today is our Maggie's 2nd b-day! What a sweet little doggie she is.

I am going…to put on my pj's soon! lol

I am reading..."Lies Women Believe" by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. I'm teaching it for a ladies' Sunday School this quarter.

I am hoping...that my DH finds his dream job in the midst of all this economic turmoil & that I can get my bulk food store going. I serve a might God!

On my mind…DD#1 & some of her decisions.

I am creating...a CHRISTmassy home.

I am hearing...my DH & DD#2 watching Lord of the Rings: 2 Towers.

Noticing that…I need new glasses.

Pondering these words…"You may be the only 'Jesus' someone sees today."

Around the house...DD#1 visited today!! I know she's only been moved out for a little over a week, but I miss her sweet face!

One of my favorite things...my family all together laughing about some silliness or other.

A Scripture thought...Ps. 27:17 ~ "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another."

A few plans for the rest of the week...laundry, wash/brush out Maggie, prepare for Sunday School class...

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you...

DD#1 & Maggie last Christmas. :-)

Friday was an exciting day for our family. Son #5 prayed a prayer for salvation with me in our laundry room. I had told the little boys to clean their room (that's up there with having your fingernails ripped off around our house!!) and they were giving me a hard time over it--not outwardly but like stopping to play with something and then saying "Oh, I forgot" when I'd find them NOT doing what they were supposed to do. Anyway, after a bit Son #5 came in while I was folding clothes and told me that there was a voice in his head telling him not to do his work and that he didn't care if he got in trouble. I asked him if he knew who that voice was--Satan trying to keep him from not obeying his mom. We talked about Adam and Eve and how wily Satan is. I told him about sin and how God made a way for us to have help to do what we're supposed to do and that Jesus died for our sins and if we believe this and pray for our sins to be forgiven the Holy Spirit should come live in hearts so that we can live a life where we win over the voice in our head telling us to sin. Yeah, it sounds a little jumbled up but He was happy to hear this good news (which he has heard before and wasn't really interested) and let me help him pray.

My laundry room is more than a room where clothes are cleaned. It is my prayer closet and sanctuary. It is a place where I can go and as I fold clothes, pray for my family and of things that are on my heart. I am so thankful to be at home with my kiddos when things like this pop up!! Thank you Lord!!

God's Accuracy

Posted by Kim Wolf<><

God's accuracy may be observed in the hatching of eggs.

For example:
-the eggs of the potato bug hatch in 7 days; -those of the canary in 14
days;
-those of the barnyard hen in 21 days;
-The eggs of ducks and
geese hatch in 28 days; -those of the mallard in 35 days;
-The eggs of
the parrot and the ostrich hatch in 42 days.
(Notice, they are all divisible by 7, the number of days in a
week!)

The lives of each of you may be ordered by the Lord in a beautiful way
for His glory, if you will only entrust Him with your life. If you try
to regulate your own life, it will only be a mess and a failure. Only
the One Who made the brain and the heart can successfully guide them to
a profitable end.

God's wisdom is seen in the making of an elephant. The four legs of
this great beast all bend forward in the same direction. No other
quadruped is so made. God planned that this animal would have a huge
body, too large to live on two legs. For this reason He gave it four
fulcrums so that it can rise from the ground easily.

The horse rises from the ground on its two front legs first. A cow
rises from the ground with its two hind legs first. How wise the Lord
is in all His works of creation!

God's wisdom is revealed in His arrangement of sections and segments,
as well as in the number of grains.

-Each watermelon has an even number of strips on the rind.
-Each orange has an even number of segments.
-Each ear of corn has an even number of rows.
-Each stalk of wheat has an even number of grains.
-Every bunch of bananas has on its lowest row an even number of bananas,
and each row decreases by one, so that one row has an even number and
the next row an odd number.

-The waves of the sea roll in on shore twenty-six to the minute in all
kinds of weather.

All grains are found in even numbers on the stalks, and the Lord
specified thirty fold, sixty fold, and a hundredfold - all even
numbers.

God has caused the flowers to blossom at certain specified times during
the day, so that Linnaeus, the great botanist, once said that if he had
a conservatory containing the right kind of soil, moisture and
temperature, he could tell the time of day or night by the flowers that
were open and those that were closed!

Thus the Lord in His wonderful grace can arrange
the life that is
entrusted to His care
in such a way that it will carry out His purposes
and plans, and will be fragrant with His presence.

Only the God-planned safe life is successful. Only the life given over
to the care of the Lord is fulfilled.

[Author Unknown]

"The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, & His understanding no one can fathom." Isaish 40:28

Homemade Liquid Dish Soap

First of all, let me share w/you a section about "Soap vs. Detergent" from the book, "The Naturallly Clean Home" by Karyn Siegel-Maier. This information helped solidify my conviction to make my own house cleaning products. FYI...my own comments will in brackettes [ ].

"Before the dawn of large-scale manufacturing, liquid soaps were made from saponins, foaming, sudsy substances found in the roots of soapwort, soapberry, & yucca. The typical liquid dishwashing soap bought from the grocery store is made from a petroleum distillate, a toxic pollutant & nonrenewable source. [Dish detergents are a leading cause of FATAL poisonings in small children!!] This product is actually a detergent, not soap. The safe & natural alternative is a vegetable-based soap called castile, a pure soap made from cocnut or olive oil. It is readily biodegradable...Castile soap can be found in liquid or solid form in health food stores &, thankfully, some supermarkets [I get mine in the health food section of Kroger]."

Here's my favorite formula:

Liquid Castile soap
10 drops lavender essential oil
10 drops rosemary essential oil
**Other great essential oils are grapefruit, orange, citrus, eucalyptus, or bergamot. Experiment w/your own favorites.

~Fill a clean, old dish soap bottle, or same size squirt bottle, w/liquid Castile soap.
~Add oils.
~Shake bottle before each use.
~Squirt in dish water & wash. **This is a relatively low-lather soap so don't over-use. 1-2 TB per sink full will do.

Kitchen Questions 2009

Posted by Kim Wolf<><

1. Do you have magnets on your fridge? You mean, is there a fridge under my magnets?!

2. Do you have a calendar in your kitchen, if so, what's the theme of it? I have a calendar that my FIL gives all of his extended family every Christmas. He orders it from somewhere and it has HUGE daily squares to write in. We all love it.

3. What is your favorite kitchen gadget or tool? My wooden spatula.

4. Are you lucky enough to have a pantry of some kind? No.

5.What is your favorite appliance? My electric skillet and my bread maker (I let it knead the dough and rise there and then I bake it in my oven).

6. Do you have an eat in kitchen (table in it)? Yes.

7.Do you have a bread box? No.

8. Do you have a picture of your kids on the fridge? Yes.

9. Do you ever cook breakfast in your PJs? Is there any other way?

10. Do you have a favorite cookbook that you use? Yes, an old Betty Crocker book and my own that I've added to since we got married 25 years ago.

11. Are you lucky enough to have recipes that were passed down from your mom or grandma? Yes, and they are in the cookbook that I've made for myself.

12. Whats your favorite food? Mexican, Italian and Briar (that's Ohio-speak for Kentucky country cooking)!

13. Whats your favorite thing to cook? Taco soup.

14. Is your coffee pot electric or stove top? Electric

15. Do you ever make your own bread? Yes, it's the only kind of bread we eat. At least at home.

16. Name one thing that you have hanging on your wall in your kitchen. The last Christmas my daddy was alive he made me a 6 ft. long shelf for my antique and reproduction tins. I also hang some of my garden herbs on it. I love it!

17. Is there a clock in your kitchen? Yes, on the stove and microwave.

18. Do you have a bowl of fruit sitting on your table or counter? Usually, but not today.

19. What type of canisters do you have? Country-type canisters w/gasket lids and a collection of antique canning jars.

20. Does your kitchen have a theme? Country w/antique and reproduction canning jars and tins - all serving a function, not just to look at - and a lot of blue sponge-ware.

21. What's for supper tonight? Not sure, possibly dirty rice.

22. Do you have enough cabinet space? I will once I clean them out - AGAIN.

23. Does your family use paper plates? On occasion - usually in the Summer.

24. Do you have a good set of china? Yes. It is what I have from our wedding. Actually, it's NOT the pattern I picked out - my mom went behind my back and changed my registry to what SHE liked and I didn't find out until we started opening our wedding gifts. I was blessed w/many sets so I kept them. Anyway...I have in mind that I would like to put them on e-bay and then get the one I REALLY wanted (English Rose or Spode's American Woodland/Wildlife)...it's been 25 years, think she'll notice?

25. Do you wear an apron to work in your kitchen? Yes. I wear my grandma's "all over" apron when I fry or bake. I'd like to get another one so that I can keep hers nice.

26. Name one thing, if anything, that you would like to change about your kitchen. Can I make it 3? Ok...a Farmer's sink and a reproduction woodburning stove, like a Hearthstone or something; and a new hardwood floor.

For Today...

Outside my window
...cloudy & dreary, sun trying to break through. Cold & windy.

I am thinking...that I miss my DD#1, who in w/Gr-ma yesterday, already! :-(

I am thankful for...our warm home.

From the kitchen...still munching a few Thanksgiving left-overs. PTL!

I am wearing...jeans & my favorite yellow/gold 'Lakeside' hoodie.

I am remembering…my dear Daddy, especially at holidays.

I am going…to help DD#2 move her bed into DD#1's old bedroom.

I am reading..."Lies Women Believe" to prepare for the ladies' Sunday School I'll begin teaching on Sunday!

I am hoping...that we can survive $$-wise for the rest of the week after today's drain repair. :-(

On my mind…finances & DD#1's decision-making abilities. :-/

I am creating...a peaceful home. Trying to think of what I can make for my mom & Ty's dad & wife for CHRISTmas. Possibly some of my spice mixes.

I am hearing...the radio & DD#2 puttering around.

Noticing that…we have such wonderful, godly friends!

Pondering these words…"KNOW that the Lord is God, It is He Who made us, & we are His; we are His people, the sheep of His pasture...For the Lord is good & His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations." Ps. 100:3&5 AMEN!!

Around the house...
moving the girls' bedrooms around, finally getting to wash ALL the dishes from Friday until today...our drain was broken & the plumber couldn't come out 'til this a.m.

One of my favorite things...country primitive decorating! Our CHRISTmas tree!

A Scripture thought...Ps. 101:2(b)-3(a) - "I will walk in my house w/blameless heart. I will set before my eyes no vile thing."

A few plans for the rest of the week...laundry, cooking, baking CHRISTmas cookies!, taking DD#2 to/from work, making laundry detergent, baking bread...life stuff.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you...

This is our CHRISTmas tree from last year, it looks pretty-much the same this year. :-)

Homeschool Encouragement...From the U.K.

"There is no evidence that this part of the Bill is needed; in fact, the reverse is very much the truth. We have just had the chief inspector saying that 1/3 of state schooling is unsatisfactory, while the true figures on home education say that maybe 1% of home education is unsatisfactory. The phrase involving beams, motes and eyes comes to mind."
