Correcting my path

I normally comment on how our Lego group is doing and a few things here and there but this week is different.  Yeah we still have the Robotics group and it is going great and we had a car wash to raise money for state competition.  That went well but we are still short so I guess we will be having another one or a garage sale.  I think it is good for the kids to earn the money instead of the parents footing the bill, it gives them a sense of ownership in what they do.  Anyway a few weeks ago we found out I have a brain tumor and as much as that was a shock to our family it put a few things into perspective for me.

I touched on this in the last post but didn't really get any responses so I will just talk now.  I realized that the most important things in my life were sitting at home waiting on me to give them the attention they deserved.  Instead of defining myself by what I do at work I needed to devote more time to my family before they no longer need me as much as they do now.  Although I have drawn strength in this tuff time from my wife and children I am amazed at how their support has helped me to face a very difficult situation.  I have also learned that I don't need to be a rock all the time and it's ok to let them step up to the plate for me and they have done that in ways that I could not have imagined.  Just yesturday while fishing with my 9 yr old son he began to counsel me and to ease my fears (This kid is amazing) he is much wiser than his old man was at that age.  The tumor is operable which is a blessing, I will keep you posted on my status as well as the Lego group.

Calling All Moms and Dads!!!

I'm considering a new project in my homeschooling journey designed to encourage and support homeschool Dad's.  I've noticed that there seems to be a huge gap in resources to help guide fathers to find there place in homeschooling and this often results in rifts in the family.  What I am hoping to do is provide a FREE resource that helps encourage and guide fathers on their own journey through the homeschooling world.  My goal is to bring families together by helping fathers find there place in the big picture.  So I'm taking a poll to find out who might be interested in receiving a newsletter geared towards guiding homeschool dads on their journey and what topics would be of interest.  If you have a moment, your response is greatly appreciated.

If you would like to receive this newsletter just let me know after you answer the questions and I will put you on the mailing list.  Moms feel free to chime in with your thoughts and your welcome to subscribe as well if your interested.

For Dad's:

I've heard a lot of fathers, including myself, complain that they barely have enough time to play with there kids much less help there wives in the homeschool.  Do you agree with this?

How much involvement do you have in your homeschool beyond basic decisions on curriculum?

Are you teaching a subject?

Do you think you could benefit from other dad's experiences?

Would you like a place where you could go and share ideas and experiences?

For Moms:

Are your husbands actively involved in the homeschool?

Do you secretly wish they were more involved?

Do you wish you had some tools you could use that would encourage your husband in this area of his life without nagging?

Thanks for your help!!!

Lego league

Some months ago my wife posted that we were starting a Lego League in our homeschool group.  I must admit, I was a little sceptical about the whole thing but as always she knew I would warm up to it.  Things have gone well since the beginning, we have a great bunch of kids in the group and everybody is bonding very well but we still have our controll problems every now and then.

Great things have come out of this group, I found my passion and I have started a new business based on some of the things I have created along the way.  I will keep you posted on how things are going with the group.

About Me

Welcome to our blog, as a homeschool father I struggled with a busy work schedule and finding time and the energy to be involved with my childrens education. So I found a way to Combining robots and imagination into science to make it less intimidating and fun to learn. In the process I develop a new relationship with my children.
