Ready for school?

Hi Everyone - Hope you are all working or finished with your CPI form.  Remember, this year all CPI forms all over the state have to be submitted to the local school district by August 26th  NOT before the first day of school in your district as previous.

Forms can be downloaded in PDF format at www.the-niche.org or at HSLDA if you are a member.  If you want a form you can fill out on your computer, email me at     kidsrus @ louisacomm.net  (remove the spaces) and I will send you the forms.  I was unable to type into the PDF format, so I went to the trouble of retyping the forms for my own use, but I am willing to share,

One thing I think is very important is support and fellowship with other homeschool families.  Please join a local homeschool group or start one if there isn't one around or that has a different philosophy than you.  Homeschool support groups can be as simple as just meeting once a month to more active groups that have co-op classes, contests, etc. etc.  NICHE will direct you to local groups in your area that you can check out and contact; you simply have to ask them for the information.

The NICHE:  http://www.the-niche.org/resources/nicheforms.html

HSLDA:  http://members.hslda.org/default.asp  (You must be a member to access these forms).

If you would like a copy of the CPI form in WORD 97-2003 format (so you can type into it and save it filled out on your computer), email me and I will send it to you.

kidsrus @ louisacomm.net   (just take out the spaces that I put in to keep it from being picked up by spamers).

Homeschool conference at Disneyland, CA

Please forward this message to all your groups and blogs - we need your help to spread the word about the conference and don't want anyone to miss out!

The official 3rd Annual Not Back to School Days Rally™ at Disneyland (California) – September 14-17, 2009 - is bringing you the first-ever homeschool conference at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel, and you won't want to miss it!

We now have a conference packet available for download, you can view the latest updates on speakers and exhibitors, and you can register in one convenient place:

http://www.southwest-home-education.com/Conference2009/conf2009.htm

Membership in the sponsoring organization is NOT required to attend this conference - it is a national conference open to all.  We have worked very hard to obtain the lowest group discounts, and the most unique speakers and exhibitors.  This is a homeschool conference unlike any other, plus a super great deal on the best family vacation!

Deadlines are quickly approaching – check the conference packet for all the deadlines and get your room reserved today.  If you want to make payments, or you need to do fundraising, please contact me TODAY (this week).  We are running out of time to set these two things up.

You can make three equal payments, and this is set up manually, so contact me offlist with an email of everything you want included in your payments and I will invoice you.  Don't wait, the deadline was extended to the end of this week to get the first payment in.

On fundraising, I need 100 families to commit to selling raffle tickets.  Again, please contact me offlist.  You will need about 2-3 months to sell your tickets and raise the points to go, so if you want this option, you need to sign up by April 17th.  We have to have 100 families who are wanting to do this fundraiser to make it work.

Hope to see you at Disneyland in California this September!  I have left my email and phone number at the end of this post – so you know it's not spam – it's a real homeschool conference at Disneyland!

"How to Break into Print (and Get Paid, Too!)"

and projects to editors who pay writers for their work.

If you have children or grandchildren, nieces, nephews or neighbors, then you have stories to tell.

Children are a master muse and this workshop will help you put pen to paper, encouraging

Math Matters: Off Road Algebra employees 21st century learning tools and methodologies to help make math relevant and fun! This 30-segment video resource focuses on ninth grade pre-algebra and algebra revolving around the world of off-road motorcycle racing. Team HotChalk worked with a group of young HotChalk-sponsored cyclists, videotaping them jumping off ramps along dirt bike tracks and racing up the golden summer hills of a ranch overlooking the ocean in central California. Math teachers scripted out the 'real world' algebra problems and the step-by-step solutions are explained in each segment. What a fun way to learn algebra! You can learn all about it

Contest - American Legion National Oratorical Contest - Scholarship Money

American Legion National Oratorical Contest

2008-2009 is the 72nd year of the American Legion National High School Oratorical Competition. This competition is designed for all contestants to discover a deeper understanding of the US Constitution.

The competition is a prepared oration on these 4 topics from the US Constitution:

 Amendment 1

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

 Amendment 3

No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.

 Amendment 4

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

 Art 3, Sec 3

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court. Clause 2: The Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted.

The 6-8 minute oration is delivered without written notes before the Legion's selected judges. The first level begins in December 2008 and then moves into local and regional competitions. The national finals are in Indianapolis in the early spring of 2009. State winners earn $1,000 scholarships. National winners receive $18,000.
