Current exhibitions include:

  • “Adventures in a Temperate Climate: A Retrospective of Paintings by Martin Mull,” through Jan. 21, 2007. Characters that often mimic members of Mull's family are shown as cartoon figures interacting with other figures dressed in 1950s styles. Menacing figures sometimes are shown against suburban homes nestled amongst perfectly manicured greenery to reflect an underlying tension between what was perceived and what really existed in 1950s suburbia.
  • “Accidentally on Purpose: Improvisation in African Textiles and African-American Quilts,” now through Feb 11, 2007. These textiles are distinguishable from the familiar European-American quilts because of their irregular patterns that sometimes have been misperceived as mistakes. This exhibition explores the relationship between African-American quilting, piecing, use of design and color and the cultural influences that link with textile making in Central and West Africa. The exhibition consists of 100 quilts and African textiles drawn from Eli Leon’s private collection.

Thank you,
