Homeschool Freebies
Jamin!, Freebie Finder
I bet you all thought this one would stump me! LOL
How about some free online field trips?
Museums on the Web is a great place to start if you are looking for online field trips. You will find a ton of resources sorted by Art, Science, History, Natural History and Miscellaneous. The site has an information key to help you know what to expect from the sites before you start clicking.
Virtual-Field-Trips.com has a huge selection of online tours. Their categories include Art, Geography, History, Just For Fun, Literature and Language, Math, Music and Science. The site includes a complete educational package with objectives, lesson plans, questions and answers, additional activities and sites to visit. With this site you can even visit places you have never imagined going . . . like the inside of the human body!
Have fun exploring. In my opinion a homeschooler can never go on too many field trips!
Happy Homeschooling,
~Jamin |

NEAT Georgraphy Website
I got wind of a really NEAT geography, FREE website where you can get reports on countries around the world.
This site offers everything you'd ever want to know about every country in
the world. Choose a country and find a map, flag, currency exchange rate,
population information, how their government is set up, culture, links to
newspapers and more.

Des Moines area - Living History Farms offers field trip opportunities
For those of you who are setting up field trips, Living History Farms has
quite a few field trip opportunities for groups of 18 to 25 students. Go to the
website _http://www.lhf.org/_ (http://www.lhf.org/) and scroll down to reach
the Education Department on the left. The "enrichment programs" or "learning
excursions" both have several fun, educational opportunities. I do know that
dates for these programs fill up fast, so if you choose to set up one of
these field trips, call Living History Farms as soon as possible.

Field Trip Possibilities for North Central Iowa
| Here are some local attractions in and around Mason City:
-
http://www.themusicmansquare.org/index.htm - "76 Trombones led the big parade,"...and you can follow the history of Meredith Wilson and times goneby! Tour his boyhood home and the town he immortalized as "River City" in his famous musical The Music Man. Wonderful website.
-
http://www.stockmanhouse.org - for families, interested in the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright (probably more interesting to older children with interest in art/architecture.
-
http://www.macniderart.org - local art museum with the ORIGINAL puppets made by Bill Baird used in The Sound of Music! ("High on a hill with a lonely goatherd...lei-dee-yodel-ay-dee-yodel-ay-hee-hoo!")
-
http://www.limecreeknature.org/index.html - bring a picnic lunch, and enjoy the beauty of this conservation area, nice trails for bikes, horses, walking. Inside the nature center building there are mounted animals, live animals, hands-on materials, an auditorium, various natural resource displays.
In Rockford, about 15 minutes East of Mason City -
- http://www.fossilcenter.com/ - Go on a FREE dig for fossils and take a few home as souvenirs! (Strong evolutionary information, but a great place to go dig fossils, there are so many!) Can easily spend half a day here!
In Waterloo, Iowa visit the Grout Museum District! - Oooh, aah! You're gonna love this place! This museum district has something for everyone! Several buildings chocked full of educational adventures! Visit their hands on Imaginarium with daily science demonstrations, or check out the Planetarium Show at the Grout Museum.
