Good grief!

Another birthday!
Last night Mike and I went out to dinner for my 34th birthday at Flat Rock Grille. Since my eyes are always bigger than my stomach when I'm pregnant I ate a small lunch so I'd be hungrier at dinner. Mike ordered steak and I had shrimp. My meal was delicious - ceasar salad, french fries, lightly fried shrimp!! The best part of Mike's meal was his baked potato. He put the garlic butter from the bread on his potato which added a great flavor!
The day ended well but didn't start out all that great. Eric had thrown up a couple times Wednesday night and once yesterday morning. We weren't sure if it was a virus or something he'd eaten so we tried to lay low. We didn't get together with my aunts and grandmother since one of my aunts was also in the midst of a stomach bug. Fortunately my friend Jenn was willing to watch the kids last night anyway.

Mirrors
Mike and I have a "secret" way of expressing appreciation for each other. We write on the mirror wiht dry erase markers every few days. Usually it's something like, "Thanks for letting me sleep in." Or "I appreciate you for teaching our kids." But sometimes it's more personal! We've found this to be a great way of connecting to each other in our busy lives. Even when we're apart I know Mike's thankful for me!

Couch time
Sometime back Mike and I started having "couch time" a couple days a week where we sit on the couch in the family room (the only kid-free zone in the house) after the kids are in bed. We pray, talk about what we're learning in our quiet times, or anything that's heavy on our minds. I love this time and wish we were more consistent!

Days 6 and 7
Pray that your husband will love righteousness and hate wickedness, especially the evils of the culture. Pray that he will recognize and avoid wickedness in his own life, and if necessary, take a clear strong stand against evil.
Pray that your husband will safeguard his heart against inappropriate relationships with the opposite sex. Pray that his heart will be
pure and undivided in his commitment to you.
I'm seeing evidence that Mike hates his sin, not all the time, but it's increasing over time. He's seeing his sin as offensive to God and wanting to restore that relationship.

Day 5 - Praying for Mike
Pray that your husband will be faithful to his wedding vows. Pray that he will have a desire to cultivate your relationship as a sign of his loyalty and commitment to you, and as a picture of Christ's love for the Church.
Mike revealed some things to me a few months ago that opened my eyes to how committed he is to our marriage. One important thing we do is communicate a lot! He initiated "couch time" twice a week where we talk about us and sometimes the kids. He's showing his love for my by letting me have time away from the kids if I need it.

Prayin' for Mike - Day 4
Pray the your husband will grow in leadership skills in your relationship-protecting and providing for you. Pray that he will lead you wisely and love you sacrificially, so that God will be glorified in your marriage.
Well, this is kinda what I commented on yesterday. A few weeks ago, Mike suggested we have "couch time" where 2 evenings a week (Monday and Friday) we sit down and share whatever's on our minds. Sometimes it's something we're learning in our quiet time, sometimes it's an issue with the boys, sometimes it's finances. But twice a week for an hour we're focused on us and how we're doing.

Day 3 of Praying for Mike
Pray that your husband will be humble and quick to agree with God about his sin. Pray that his heart will be tender toward the voice of the Lord.
I'm seeing Mike more receptive to God's leading, to the Holy Spirit's convicting of sin. The changes in him over the last year, and especially the last 6 months are awesome and I thank God for how he's working in Mike's life. He's taken the lead in our family spiritually, which is something I've been praying for.

Day 2- Praying for Mike
Pray that your husband's relationship with God and His Word will bear fruit in his life. Pray that he will be a man of wisdom and understanding, fearing the Lord.
Mike came back from discipleship a little bit ago. He said he was the focus of the discussion...well, actually his prideful nature. I'm SO thankful God's convicting him of this and he's working on being more humble. His desire is to serve God and glorify Him.

31 Days of Prayer for Mike
I got this idea from my friend Stephanie who got it from Revive Our Hearts. I'm going to spend the next 30 days focusing on praying for my husband.
Day 1
Pray that your husband will grow spiritually and consider his accountability before the Lord. Pray that he will guard his heart by developing spiritual disciplines - Bible reading and study, prayer, meditation, scripture memorization, etc.
Mike's involved in an accountability/discipleship group at church, actually one with some men from care group and one focused more on leadership. I've seen his Bible reading increase greatly in the past year. As he eats his Kellogg's Raisin Bran every morning he also reads a chapter or two of the Bible. He's memorizing Scripture and chatechism questions, he's reading books about theology, and he's being held accountable by 2 different groups of men. God's working in my husband, and I pray Mike will continue to be receptive to God's leading!
