We live in the most wonderful place.
Friday night afternoon we went down to Santa Fe to get some puppy food and office stuff. We found the petsmart and office stuff and then found the mall… it is not a very big mall, about the size of the Treasure Coast mall in Florida, but it is a mall. J

We got hubby some new golf shoes. Found some on sale even. Yeah. Then we found a dinner that had Mexican food. It was very good except for the guacamole that was way too spicy. I love guacamole and had trouble eating this one. We even brought back enough leftovers for lunch on Saturday.

Saturday we went to the grocery store and watched movies.

Sunday after church and lunch we went to the aquatic center and played in the water all afternoon. We had brats and beans for dinner and then watched Prince Caspian. It is just as good as the first one. The girls loved it.

Monday we headed out west to Valle Caldera National Preserve. It is the volcano top that is now flat. It is shaped like a bear claw. The view is awesome. It is 12 miles across and 78 miles around. They have herds of elk there that are free roaming. There are some hiking trails that go up on some of the peaks that have fabulous views. We found a small piece of obsidian in the parking lot of the welcome center. We opted to go to the campground and hike to the Jemez falls and springs. It is a long hike (4 miles round trip) and mom would not have made it, but dad would have loved it. It is just as much fun as the hike at the Bandelier Falls hike. The falls were great and the springs were a lot of fun. The girls want to take there swim suits next time, there are pools that you can play in. The water is nice and warm. We took our shoes off and waded in some of the shallower pools. It is very deep in some of the pools, so the girls had fun looking for and catching minnows. We found some small pieces of obsidian on the hike. Hubby had a small run in with a big piece of granite. The granite won and he now has a big bump and scrape on the side of his leg.

Then we drove over to Jemez Springs, the village. We stopped at the Soda Dam. It is a natural dam and small falls that is just awesome. The girls climbed and played by the dam for a while then we crossed the road and climbed up to the cave. It is a steep hike up, but a great view. We found some small pieces of obsidian there too. There is a natural hot springs that come out of the rock below the cave. It smells of strong sulfur. There is one that comes out of one of the rocks, one that comes out of a hole in the ground, and some that drip from an over hang on the rocks.

We had a late dinner at Jemez Springs, and headed home. We stopped at the caldera at looked at the stars. It was a bit chilly out but the stars were spectacular. We saw a lot of deer on the way home. We got home after 10 so went skipped the movie we were going to watch and went to bed.

There is a lot more area there that we want to see, so we will go next weekend and start earlier. There are more springs and more caves and more canyons to hike in.

Today is laundry day and knitting at the library tonight. We have a lot of laundry to do since we skipped laundry on Friday and Monday. We will probably take a nap this afternoon too after we get the house cleaned up. A weekend with no chores sure makes a mess of the house.
