My Children Need to Know the Hymns
I have long-wanted to do some kind of regular Music Time. We do sing together. Actually, we sing together a lot. We are a musically-inclined family.
I decided today, as 2dd15 was singing a kids' song to BabyBoy, in an off-tune kind of way, that we need to sing with more intention.
So, we will be getting out the Hymn Books, learning the words and melodies, and studying the authors and reasons behind their writings. I know there is a book that lists many hymns and such information. When I find the information on it, I will post it here. If you want to add your favorite resources for studying hymns and composers, I would love to hear about them.

If I had the $$$ to order ANYTHING I wanted, I'd get ALL KINDS of materials from: http://www.livinghymns.org/resources.htm . We have just gotten the hymn CD's from K-Mart (Thomas Kinkade painting on the cover) and learned from them. There's also http://www.igracemusic.com/hymnbook/hymns.html online and http://www.cyberhymnal.org/ . (((((HUGS))))) sandi

I recently got challenged to do the same and so now in our family devotional time we start with a hymn. We picked Immortal, Invisible God only Wise. The kids love it and they are actually workingon learning to really sing. So I am encouraged about this. Next we will go on to Be thou My Vision. We are trying to do it all acapella so that they really learn to sing. My grandparents were all Mennonites, a group who sings without any instruments, so they were all pretty good singers.

I'm kind of a "worship song" kind of girl myself, but as a worship leader in my church I often try to choose at least one old classic hymn, for I don't want them to be lost...... I know all the old hymns, but my children need to know them too...thanks for this reminder.
What's your favorite hymn?
Mine is "Great is thy faithfulness"
