HTM-what? Our new Website and such... ~ Abiding in the vine through my everyday challenges, part 3
Abiding in the vine through my everyday challenges, part 3 Things are getting less and crazy around here for me. I am learning to trust God's will and how to step out of my comfort zone. This is one thing that probably seems like I would do easily, but I guess sometimes it is easy to hide in all I have to do and just focus on those things. I am finding I truly can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. This post is specific to our home business. It seems like it is taking turns quicker than I can follow. They are not realized as of yet, but one never knows when God will call you in and put you into action. As far as my responsibilities increasing, expanding, whatever you want to call it... I am trying to meet each challenge with a mind and heart open to God and His will. If you know me personally, then you have known for a long time that I would rather take charge and just have it done that way and be done with it. But, when God puts goats into the hearts of our children, and then allows My Sweetie to agree, well, I don't know which way is up, and it is easy to start asking God how far He will take this for us. I know goat's milk, cheese and butter are in, along with kids ( ; but, I am now asking him to show us why, why now and for what purpose. All of this, and I still have not gotten to what is really changing: our Family business, SoulRest Educational Supplies. Crystal Paine told me that if we want to really make a business of it, then we are going to have to have our own books, personally written, to sell. No problem, we have a budding author who is eager to have me get her book completely edited. Add to that the prompting of the Holy Spirit that I have some things of my own to publish, I think we are in for some big changes!! Thank the LORD, He told me in my spirit in Dec. '05 that this year was going to be a year of changes. I have been anxiously awaiting all He has planned this year, and I have not been disappointed!!
HTM-what? Our new Website and such... We finally got a domain name and a website. We were using the SRES MSN Space, and as nice as it is to just type it in there, it is not what we wanted for our business. So, now, I am going to have to learn how to set up this website. I think this is one of those things as a Homeschool family where you have one of your high school homeschoolers take a class on computers, and learn along with them. Anyway, I know this new website really is a blessing (It really is a blessing, It really is a blessing, It really is a blessing, saying to myself). No, really. Hence the expansion of my comfort zone. I am fine and actually have learned a lot about HTML here at HSB. Before this, I really had little idea. But, changing my template, adding my own things, I have learned a bit. NOT enough to do a site using only HTML, mind you, but we do have Sitebuilder, so that helps. I am praying God will show me about using this agora shopping cart thing, though, because they do not offer support. But, for now, I will be putting descriptions and such on the site. With my limited knowledge and NO computer classes EVER, the site is up and running, and I will do whatever necessary to figure it out. I think our children and I can take some free classes online, through emachines, so I am going to look into that. As we grow, we will be able to take some classes as needed. I just don't want my pc time - which seems to be too much already - to take up other time for the important things in life. This is why I stay home, to be with our dear children, not work at a computer all day. Hence the new stress factor in my life. When I say stress, I don't mean I am flipping out (as 1dd16 would call it), I mean it is something I have now added and will have to allow God to show me where its place is in our lives.... just like everything else. But, as with any new "project" that life brings, it takes a little time to get it into the routine. I did have 2dd15 type and copy/paste a lot of the book entries this week. That is good, when I can have them learn or use their skills to complete a task and chalk it up to schoolwork at the same time. We do that a lot for school - it is life-learning and Delight-Directed, so, it will actually be something they learn from. I don't think we had our HSB blogs when I found out that both of my oldest daughters had taught themselves to touch-type, but I was so thrilled. It amazes me. I never learned how to touch-type. And, I probably would have just taken it as a class to fill in my schedule, not because I saw the value and wanted to learn it. God truly knows more about how a child learns than any man. I thank Him that I can place them into His hands daily and listen to His leading as we home educate them!! I have also been in limbo about our ebay store. To list or not to list, that is the question. I know several of you have accounts or stores on ebay... What is your opinion? Has their textbook policy or their rate hikes changed your opinion at all? I will probably bite the bullet and list for now. It does no good to pay for a store and sell nothing. I also know that I will prob. sell more if I have enough listed for them to buy a bunch and save on shipping! And- “TIS The (homeschool book-buying) Season!! So, then, I will be sure to work that into my and the dd's schedule for the week.
