Grabbing Your Starbucks Today???

11:15 AM, Monday, June 5, 2006 .. Posted in In These Last Days .. 13 comments .. Link

Please do not read on without permission from your parents. I respect the God-given directives of parents who choose to educate their children about social issues and their Biblical place. This is such a social issue. I also am concerned about YOU.  If you are visiting here without them, it is obviously because they trust you online. Don’t break that trust. So, Go ask Mom or Dad. ( ; THANK YOU!

I am just rambling today. I thought this might get a conversation ball rolling. I need you wonderful, God-loving, Homeschooling Mamas to keep me sane. ( ; Not really sane, but I enjoy reading all about you and even chatting with a few of you! And this conversation is not just for Homeschool Mamas - I have many friends I respect and would love to hear from you, too. Just push the Post A Comment link, and you’re off!

I have Random-Blogged here at HSB often, and I inevitably run across a blog encouraging you to grab your Starbucks...I think a couple of my “friends“ even have that on theirs. Nothing against any of the bloggers here. At all. I just wanted to blog about the fact that it bothers me .

I read last year about Starbucks’ HUGE support of Gay Pride parades across the US, and their in-your-face attitude about it, and it just bothers me. You don’t bother me, Starbucks bothers me. Maybe you just haven’t heard about it.

Now, I am not bothered by the idea of grabbing your favorite coffee drink - I’ll take a Carmel Cappuccino, with an extra shot and whipped cream on top - hot or cold, please. But, I do cringe when I see the Starbucks reference. I am a boycotter. I admit it. It kinda’ goes along with the whole being a Christian thing for me. Like homeschooling. I homeschool for many reasons, and one is a boycott of the idea that “it takes a village to raise a child” Oh, that mantra just makes me want to wretch and fight all at the same time.

But, onto the Gay Pride/Starbucks, thing...

I WILL NOT link these sites... because, for as “normal” of a lifestyle as it is touted to be, it is not suitable for children to get there. I don’t visit straight sites where the focus is a man and woman getting into a kiss, so I really don’t want to link to the pics of two women - or two men, involved.

   In researching the Starbucks link to the homosexual agenda, of course, I found a list of other supporters... among them, Microsoft (at seattlepi.nwsource .com/business/230034_gaypridebusiness25.html) , and who of us doesn’t support them? I am waiting to find Dr.Pepper - which, as ‘addicted’ as I am to it, I would stop drinking it altogether. I used to drink Diet Pepsi, and would still prefer it or Diet anything, but, alas, it is so much worse than regular pop for your health. Anyway, I did stop drinking it. Maybe I should hope I DO find it on the list. ( ;

Others in that article include: Anheuser-Busch to Bank of America, Avis-Rent-a-Car to Aetna Insurance.

If you are an adult and would like to see a list of supporters, I went to a site called commercial closet. It is at .org. On the page that ends in /cgi-bin/iowa/index.html , I found this list:

Gay Network LOGO Testing in Mexico & Brazil

Six-hour gay programming blocks from LOGO is being tested for six months as pay-per-view, non-advertiser-supported services, beginning Nov. 4 in Mexico and Nov. 18 in Brazil, to create the first research about gay viewing habits in those countries, and test market viability.

Viacom's new 24-hour gay channel LOGO is now available in 19 million U.S. households, supported by:

Sears                                                Weight Watchers International

Eastman Kodak                              Continental Airlines

Prudential Real Estate                  Ameriprise Financial

Tourism Australia                          eBay

Dell Computer                               Bacardi Ltd./DiSaronno

Motorola                                        General Motors/Pontiac & Saturn

Subaru                                           Saab

American Express                          E*Trade

Earthlink                                       GlaxoSmithKline/Valtrex

Hewlett Packard                          Johnson & Johnson/Tylenol PM

Travelocity                                    Miller Brewing/Miller Lite

Anheuser-Busch/Bud Light         The New York Times

Garnier/Fructis                            Lions Gate Films

Tower Records                             1-800-Mattress

Sleepy's                                         Sharper Image

AARP                                            Berkeley Premium Nutraceuticals/ Enzyte

and a host of direct response ads including

Time-Life Music                         Bowflex

1-800-PetMeds                            Select Comfort beds and others.

Dedicated gay commercials came from

Showtime                                     Orbitz

Key West                                      InsightOut Books

and the Greater Philadelphia Tourism & Marketing Corp.

Some local New York City area advertisers include

Toyota                                          Cushman & Wakefield

ABC Carpet                                 PC Richard & Son

and Interactive Male

Ok, so, there you go. Ebay is on this list, as well as (for us) Garnier Fructis. We will stop buying that and, again, the eBay decision is before us. Yes, I agree. Garnier Fructis is not a little fish and eBay a big fish, because, when you are making such decisions, there are no little/big fish distinctions. UUGGHH!!!!  There are all kinds of items we buy and do not know - or sometimes do- where the money goes.  What do you do????

So, tell me what you think of their reasoning.

COMMERCIAL CLOSET ASSOCIATION
PRINCIPLE OF FREE MARKET ADVERTISING EXPRESSION

Preamble: America's bedrock commitment to entrepreneurialism and to free markets is older than our nation itself. Free markets recognize the worth of every single consumer without discrimination. In our extremely competitive economy, no company today can afford to neglect or shun any of its customers. ...continued at >> http://  www. commercialcloset  .org/cgi-bin/iowa/index.html?page=principles

As far as buying from any person, regardless of their Biblical ideologies, I am not referring to that. I am referring to the $1or whatever for each Starbucks you buy that goes to support a huge lobbying company that changes laws in this country and is clearly unbiblical and harms the foundations of our country. I am not referring to Joe Neighbor who is gay and wants to sell you his lawnmower (though, if you think about it, he may be sending that $100 to the national organization!).

So, food for thought- where do you stand? Are you going to keep grabbing that Starbucks or are you going to find a little cafe run by a local Christian family? Don’t have one? I have always thought how fun it would be to open up a coffee shop.

That is interesting about eBay too... another nail in that coffin. I've been looking for greener pastures or other business ad-ventures :-D I'm sending your article to some friends :)

my mouth from the floor. I am also a boycotter because I belive the dollar does speak quite loud when many do it. I definatley don't want to support any of the gay rights. I will love someone individually if they are gay but I won't support the movement. I am going to put my self on the line here. My brother is gay and he has a partner. I love my brother with all of my heart but I don't accept his choises. His friend wants my kids to call him Uncle too. But I won't let them . He is only referred to as Dave. I will be kind but I don't belive to love them is to accept their life style. I can't belive that company's like Sears are on the list, oh well.
I really appreciate you standing up and being forward about choises in our lives.
In Him,

Interesting topic. We've been Starbucks fans. Then a neighborhood "mom and pop" opened we started going there. But they put in TV's and that ruined our little date time. So we migrated back to Starbucks. Recently, Beaners opened and now we're going there. Thanks for posting this.
