Even If You Homeschool Year-Round, It's Time For "Back-To-School"

5:56 PM, Tuesday, July 25, 2006 .. Posted in Homeschooling- Lessons, Ideas and Tips .. 1 comments .. Link
It's July 25th, and for most of us Homeschoolers, that means:
  1. Curriculum selection and purchases
    1. Continuing to add to our list,
    2. diligently trying to find what else we need because we are starting in ...!!,
    3. or finalizing those last purchases with a happy sigh of relief.
  2. Creating curriculum, if you do that in your school.
  3. Making a Schedule of some type for the following year.
    1. That could be strict, sit-down-in-your-desk type of schedule, or
    2. A "Well, we'll plan to do this in this month and this in that month." type of schedule.
  4. Organizing
    1. Our School Area
    2. School Supplies
    3. School Records
    4. Our Minds
  5. Buying Organizing totes or filing cabinets, binders, calendars, notebooks for you just keep the records for this year.
  6. Scavenging your local discount store (i.e. Dollar General or (!!!UGH!!!) Wal Mart) to find the great sales on school supplies and overstock sales.
  7. Doing one last good cleaning and purging books, records, "stuff", etc. that will just be in the way!
  8. Summer is almost ending and Fall is coming sooner than we think (depending on what country you are in!)

At this time, I am in the process of reading The Heart of Wisdom Teaching Approach. I like what I have read, and as I have said before, it seems to be a manual written by Robin Sampson reflecting a large part our past few years of 'homeschooling the Dixon way'.

I am also trying to plan some Unit Studies for the rest of the summer, nature and science projects.  I am still working on having the children notebook their projects and unit studies. Do you or have you ever done this? I went out and bought some supplies, so I will be posting about it - hopefully soon.

I am looking for 6 more totes to individualize the meoribilia/projects for each child this year. I want to get a simple calendar for each child, to write down milestones or events.

Last year, I wrote down each child's daily activities in a small 3-ring binder to keep track of school days. I included literally everything that was learning. Living Learning Moments...
