I have been reading my Heart of Wisdom Teaching Approach, finally, after wishing I had time for a few months... and I am loving it. I am so excited that we will be using scrapbooking and notebooking this year to learn everything from the Bible to LifeSkills to Science and Unit Studies.I had been to their Scrapbooking to Learn site, and frankly, I was having a hard time understanding it all. It wasn't because their site was confusing or hard to understand or even hard to use; it was because, as a scrapbook supplies consultant and avid memoery-keeper, I could not get past the methods we use to put personal albums together and see how it could be done for school. As I was reading HOWTA, all of a sudden a light bulb came on, and then another, and I am preparing for all of this, and I think our dear children think I have flipped my lid!! I picked up a 3-ring binder for each of them yesterday (which btw, are outrageously expensive!!). I let them choose one, as long as it was at least a 1.5" ring and less than $3. I let them pick a color, and they each had the transparent pocket in front and back. After reading HOWTA last night, and planning a little more, and making my list, I thought there was no way I could buy them each 4-5 3-ring binders! EACH? That's 5, no 6, children... No way! Ok, so we stopped at good 'ole DG - Dollar General - this afternoon, to see what they had. I had been to Walgreen's yesterday and taken advantage of their specials that applied, like 150 sheet paper packs 3/$.99. That and index card holders were all the deals they really had that we needed. DG had their 1.5" binders for $1.50 each. They were marked $2, but rung up at $1.50. YAY! So, I stocked up on several, for different Living Learning Scrapbooks. No, I am not crazy! As a matter of fact, after reading the 1st 2 Chapters, there are just some things that are so much clearer now about more than scrapbooking school. Robin writes from Scripture and the heart. She is kind and wise... as she tells where true wisdom comes from and talks openly about really trusting God. It is wonderful. Since we started homeschooling in a more Bible-based approach a couple of years ago, our lives have been more free, and now, after reading some of these passages, I understand it better in a Scriptural sense. I suppose I should give some credit to my dear friend, Amber, since she and I have been mulling over the scrapbooking catalog and deciding together what will work and brainstorming a few ideas.... even though she already had in mind what she was doing, I did get to pick her brain on her ideas on the subject! I have decided that we will be scrapbooking or notebooking these Living Learning Moments:
Well, there is an introduction to what we are doing as far as school this year. We have about 6-8 weeks left of summer in Indiana, and we are going to spend these weeks doing a 'nature study'. We already have a reptile tank we observe and take care of on the porch, which provides some "nature" for the Littles - and me, because I love to stand in the dark in our dining room and watch the bugs fly around the lamp outside in the tank. We are going to be doing a littler closer looking, though, and take some nature walks, collecting and observing flowers, bugs, weather and its affect on nature, basically whatever the end of summer and beginning of fall bring us! We 'officially' start school the Tuesday after Labor Day in September, so these are just preparation days, though we never really stop school, ever. Have a fruitful and blessed end of your week, and may you have peace as you start, finish or prepare for this year of school. Trust in the LORD for your Homeschool . He will never fail you.
