Back to (Home)School Contest - How Will you Do It??
Sunday, August 6, 2006

As 2dd15 was thinking of a prize for her contest, I kinda' stole her idea for the prize.... which is ok, because I gave her a really good one for hers!  My contest is:

Post your plans for this school year-just a general idea, as elaborate or simple as you want to get-  on your own blog. If you have already done a post about it, then you can take the shortcut and just post the link here in the comments.
**If you do not have a blog but would like to enter then let me know and you can post your entry on our Contest Blog and leave a link here!
I have dear friend who reads my blog, but does not have a blog, so I thought there may be others who read but don't blog... We want to know your plans, too!!

By plans, I mean:
  • What type of homeschooler are you?How do you homeschool? (Do you plan??)
  • Are you using a specific curriculum or a conglomeration or none?
  • Are you making it up yourself?
  • Do you have a plan or just use ideas as you go?
  • Do you homeschool in desks, at the table or anywhere it works??
  • Tell me what you are excited about that you will be doing!
  • Are you going to teach each child in their own grade level or do you multi-grade teach?
You don't have to answer each question; this is just an example of what I am looking for. I would love to hear imput and ideas, because I think we all love to read how others do it. We can encourage each other and "spur each other on" in homeschooling with our ideas.

The prize will be a back-to-school package, including several goodies:
  • 5- 70 sheet spiral-bound notebooks
  • 5- 2-pocket folders
  • 10 ct. #2 pencils
  • 5 mechanical pencils
  • pkg. 12 colored pencils
  • 2-pk. pink erasers
  • 4- washable gluesticks
  • 2- double pencil sharpeners
I am also throwing in a copy of Doorposts Checklist For Parents...available through SoulRestES.

     So,
  1. post your homeschool plan info on your own blog, then
  2. leave me a comment with the link, so others can go and see all the wonderful ideas you have and also get to know you a little by visiting your blog!
  3. Come back and check out everyone else's ideas too.
I will end the contest in the next couple of weeks and get your goodies out to you!
If you are a homeschooler, being homeschooled, tell me how your parents homeschool you. What is a typical day, what are most-remembered subjects or projects you have studied? What is your favorite subject? How many siblings do you have and do you homeschool together....

Doorposts Checklist For Parents
Utilizes 6 areas of responsibility: love, prayer, instruction, protection, provision, and example.
Be brave! Use this checklist to help you:
  • Evaluate your obedience to God’s instructions for parents
  • Pinpoint areas of weakness, sin, negligence, or laziness, with the intention of growing toward greater maturity.
  • Memorize Scripture that will equip you for your job as parent.
  • Discuss your relationship with your children.
  • Explain your responsibility to your children.
  • Pray for direction in your role as parent.
  • Prepare your young adults for their future job as parents.

What a great idea for a contest! I think I can...participate (I'm an only-in-the-mood kind of planner) :). I shall be back later when I post my entry on my blog.

P.S. Thanks for visiting my blog and for your kind words! By the way, that winning word was from my dear husband, not me. I enjoy visiting your blog. I'll be back.

Mom is getting ready for our school and boy! I'm ready! I think this year will be great. I'm really excited! I will tell her about your dixcount! What a great deal, huh?

Greetings! I linkety-linked my way over to your blog via another blog I was reading. We haven't started "officially" homeschooling yet, although children, as we know don't need anything formal to learn. I recently posted what I will be using as my curriculum so I thought I would enter that post. Many blessings!

I did post our plans for this school year already. We love learning via literature, so I think we're kind of CHarlotte Mason. It's my bent, although I don't follow it as well as I could. We are using Tapestry of Grace (loosely) for our multi-level curriculum.

The scoop on me: Believer for 20 years; married 19 years; 8 children so far, hoping for more; live on a great hobby farm, with 7 goats, 2 dogs and 68 chickens. Oh, and 1 bathroom. That's always fun. :) The scoop on our homeschool: Bible-first, Living Learning Moments, meaning if it happens, it's a lesson. We learn life! How long have we been homeschooling? Well, our oldest is 18. How much longer do we have to go? Well, our youngest is almost 1. We love it and wouldn't have it any other way.

Jeremiah 6:16
Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls.
But they said, We will not walk therein.

HOMESCHOOLING
~Resources for Homeschoolers~

Keep their hearts. If you don't have their hearts, take note and re-capture their hearts!
Don't let the seeds sown by the ideal of today's youth culture ruin the glorious plans God has for your child.
Satan wants him. Your child is a jewel in Christ's crown, and satan wants him.
Train him as such.
You want him more. So does the Lord.

Deuteronomy 6:1-13

1 Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it:
2 That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.
3 Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.
4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
10 And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not,
11 And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full;
12 Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
13 Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name.

Exodus 20:1-17 The Ten Commandments

1 And God spake all these words, saying,
2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
13 Thou shalt not kill.
14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
15 Thou shalt not steal.
16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.
