The life of a Komodo Dragon is exciting! Well, it is as written by author Melissa Markham.
I had the opportunity to look over her latest E-book, with great enthusiasm.
Melissa has put together a mountain of good information into the story about the Komodo Dragon. It starts as several emerge from their eggs, and continues to follow one as she forages and grows into an adult Dragon. Also included is information on the other creatures and surrounding vegetation she runs into.
There are pictures throughout, which makes this a colorful and real-to-life book. The author has linked vocabulary words so that your child may go to Wikipedia and find out the meaning with a click of the mouse!
It is like a science lesson on the Dragon and its habitat. The author is very descriptive as she tells you of the lifespan of this Komodo Dragon, so that you get a mind's picture of what you are reading about. You can almost see the juvenile Komodo as she cowers by the bigger dragons, trying to sneak in and get a bite of the carrion. Some of it is very descriptive in the fact that the Komodo Dragon is quite a voracious creature, and it may make you squeamish! It goes on to tell the specific eating habits of this incredible creature, as well as reproductive habits!
She includes detailed Komodo statistics at the end, as well as a good Bibliography and Related Resources. The nice thing about an E-book is that it is linked online, and you can go there now!
I let 4ds9 look over the book. He loved the pictures and the fact that he can click on the words to find out what they mean. As we scrolled through it, we stopped to ask and answer questions about the pictures as I read him the details.
This book is a great read for any school-age child!
If you have ever seen anything about a Komodo and thought that they were giant, snarling, vicious creatures, this will not put your mind at ease, but it is a fantastic display of the majesty of this giant of Indonesia (I learned that in this book, too!)
You will not be disappointed in this book!
