Walking Therein

Some things I have learned about Homeschooling in 13+ years:

We have "officially" homeschooled for about 13 years. There are so many things each of us learn as we go along, whether we are veterans or just beginning.
We don't start out with the same intentions, plans or dreams as we end up with.   Here are a few of the important things I have been thinking about as I have been planning for this year:
1. The Bible is the best textbook you can have. It is good for reading, science, math, poetry, Bible verse memorization,..... everything!!
2. Keep records and/or a portfolio, even if your state does not require it.  You will be glad you did when your child starts 'high school' courses, you move, or you just want to be able to record it for that child to have. It also shows us how God teaches and trains us as we grow in Him.
3. Scope and Sequences are made to average most children in a certain age range. We homeschool to get out of that 'averaging'.
4. Let the children learn as it fits them. Raise the bar and expect them to meet it, but only because they have the capability, not because "they should be doing that now".
5. Do not 'play school' at home. In other words, we want to HOMEschool, so we don't want to imitate the public school system.
6. School subjects are relevant. They are not just the 3Rs, nor are they the list of classes to choose from in ps. They include things like baking and sewing and homekeeping and shopping. Mowing the lawn, keeping the goats and cleaning off the porch also prove to be very improtant skills to perfect also.
7. Children love to do what interests them, and everything is a study or lesson. This is called delight-directed.
8. If you follow a delight-directed study, things they don't delight in so much will be more delightful to them.
9. Homeschooling means HOMEschooling... not meeting-at-church-schooling or run-around-town-schooling or shopping-at-the-mall-schooling or meet-with-my-girlfriends-schooling, etc. You get the picture, right?
10. Homeschooling is our greatest chance to keep our children home and teach and train them in the WORD and Godliness. We can only walk with them and talk with them and fully teach them God's ways by taking advantage of our freedom to homeschool.
11. Ok, one more.... I can't believe how fast time goes...Time is fleeting, so we must make the most of our days with our children. Put them and their training above all things outside of God and your family. Everything. Those things will pass away, but you will stand before a Holy God and give account of your days with the Blessings He has put into your care and instruction.

In Him,

Well......I am glad.....

that you learned all those things and am glad I could be a guinea pig for you to learn them!
Although me being the disciplined person that I am would rather do bookwork and sit at a desk and have school. But I guess we have to do what is the best for the majority rather than just me!
And I like what you said about the Bible. Something I thought about when I was reading The Maker's Diet was the Bible has everything we need. It is even a food guide, health book, and everything!
All the things you posted about are really great! The are just what the Lord prescribed for our family!
Thanks for following His will!

ebay bans teacher edition books being sold!

I read the article this morning about how ebays decision effects home schoolers and came searching. When I Googled the names given, with Teachers Edition as a search criteria, up on the right came the ebay ad for buy Teachers Edition books on ebay!

Seems like double speak to me!

What I wanted to share, is that a search of precursory chemicals on ebay, finds easy access for the raw materials to make drugs or explosives. A public school science teacher reviewed my shopping list and stated that he as a teacher could only access a pound at a time of these compounds, under very tight guidelines. I have since gone to Homeland Security, the FBI and LA County HAZMAT where this is being reviewed. But ebay in their wisdom will not remove these items unless ordered by the courts.

So terrorist supplies are OK, but homeschoolers are too dangerous! WHAT GIVES?

Thank you!
