Station Break from Homeschool Posts.... Steve Irwin's death - a great loss

After hearing about the tragic death of our beloved Crocodile Hunter, I decided to go ahead and post this very important information on my homeschool blog.
When SuperAngel told us, I literally cried. I guess as you get older, you realize how short time really is, and as I see my grandparents and parents age, longevity is something on my mind. Though I didn't personally know Steve Irwin, I feel like we knew him a bit. We had just seen him on a Subway commercial-of all things- traipsing around the jungle after a sub sandwich, the night before. Jocelyn commented that "he met Faramir". The very next day, the man has slipped into eternity.
How's that for putting things into perspective?
So, I am going to make this a tribute that will be sort-of strange to some and understandable to others.
I think Mr. Irwin was a one-of-a-kind, loving, fantastic human being. He touched so many on this earth with his mission. He truly loved what he did and was totally and fully committed to it. From what I have seen from his interviews, he truly loved and doted on his 2 young children. I watched as he did the same with Terri, his wife, who stood by his side in many of his adventures. In some regards, he experienced more in his short 44 yrs. than most of us will in a full 90+years.
I was - and am - truly saddened to read a remark that a member of his crew made to define Mr. Irwin, though. He said he feared nothing, not even death. I imagine he did have to get to where he had conditioned that fear away, just to get on with his adventures. He must have had a healthy fear - a respect- of the creatures he shared his life with, though. He regarded them as misunderstood.
It is now too late to tell Mr. Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter, that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. I will not presume to know whether he slipped into an eternity of darkness or into the arms of Jesus, the Loving Savior of the world. I do not know. I know I never heard him get excited about Jesus the way he did about crocs or spiders. I loved to watch him, though. That was a part of who he was. A vivacious character who shared his passion with all.
So, as we all pay tribute to a man who truly did so much for conservation of wildlife and allowing us to sit as spectators and learn all he did in danger, please ask yourself this question: Am I ready to go to my eternity in a literal heartbeat? They said that the stingray pierced his heart and probably severed his aorta, meaning he died in a single stroke. His cameraman did not even hear him utter a word, and he slipped away... are you ready to go so soon?
We all see scenes in movies where people die, saying something, gathering thoughts as they smile and fade away. What if this is your last chance to gather those thoughts?
On top of all of this, I had a video emailed to me that I want to share with you. Death really can happen in an instant - or Christ's Return can. I know, I know, "Christians" have been preaching this at everyone for hundreds - thousands - of years, and it hasn't happened. That doesn't make it less true.

It may take a minute or 2 to load, but...
 Are You Ready?

At first I groaned at the thought of hearing more about his death. It seems that once media gets on a subject that is all you hear about. After I read your post I was glad I did because you sent a good message for everyone to think of eternity. Praise God I am saved but others can't say the same thing.

Great tribute. My oldest ds and I had a very similar discussion yesterday - wondering if Steve Irwin knew the LORD, and hoping that his wife and kids will choose God's comfort in their loss.

Blessings,
Kym

Steve Irwin was one of my favorite persons to watch on APL. Many people thought he was an idiot, simply based on the rumors that the media spread about him. They simply weren't true. I read some of his Interviews and how the missunderstandings got started. It's sad that people didn't show him more compassion. I love the Aussie accent! And the dramatic expressions. He truely was so full of life one minute, it seems hard to believe that he was gone the next!
I don't know either where his eternity lies, I did hear him speak of God, but my Hubby said he's also an Evolutionist, so I don't know. I'm glad I'm not his judge! I will miss his shows. I didn't watch him all the time, but once in a while it was fun to set with my family and watch his daring escapades!

I tried to watch the video, but it takes so long, I didn't get to watch it to the end. My computer is so slow and I didn't have time to wait for it to download. I will try again. From what I saw of it......it really is very though provoking!
