Walking Therein

Homeschooling A Houseful is Just Life

     I am quite tired these days, how about you?
    And, do lesson plans ever get finished? No, I suppose not, since we homeschool the entire year, right?
    So, I have our plans ready for the first 6 weeks of school. We started on September 11th. We are 10 days into it. Each child has X amount of lessons to complete in mathematics. The others are done as a group or read alone, and there are still a couple I want to implement.
    It is working out fine, so that I can let them be responsible for their own work, except for what we study together. I am always available if and when they need me. They have math books to work from and books they are each reading. We do school on the weekdays, as time and HomeKeeping allows, and they also work a couple of lessons on the weekends... by choice! ( ;
    We are currently reading the Bible and The Mystery of History 2 together.
    How is it I am so exhausted, then, since a lot of what they do is self-sufficient?  My friend Danielle, would remind me that I am nursing 2 children and pregnant. I forget that that really is a big deal - because for me, it is just life... then, there was that birthday last month that is only bringing me closer to (ahem) 40. ha ha.
    No, I suppose the real problem right now is the weather... it is cold, then warm, then cold... you get the idea. So, a couple of us have sore throats and sinus headaches. I'm one of them.
    The only thing about being sick -or not feeling well, is that life goes on. We can't take a sick day. Even if I can sleep for a couple of hours when Babyboy does, I still can't take the day off - after all, I'm the MOM. And people say things to me like, "My, you have your hands full!" or, "I just don't know how you do it...", with  that scared, quizzical look on their faces. I always cheerfully quip back that I am thankful to have older children to help out and take over when necessary. Add the love of learning I have tried to instill in all of them, and I am thrilled to have to tell 4ds9 and 5dd6 to "Please put your math away - for the 5th time!" After all, there will always be tomorrow!
    It's all in the training. I suppose if we had stayed on the path of letting the girls each go their own ways with their own friends and interests, life would be a much different scenario and more of a struggle than I could possibly imagine. I am so thankful to a God who never leaves us alone and will show us the Truth if we seek it. He showed me the Bible and the Truth about his plans for a Daughter, and our lives haven't been the same since. Thank God.
    So, being tired, I know God has not given me more than I can handle. Homeschooling 5 different "grades", training 7, nursing 2, expecting 1.... I think God has given us all we need to complete the task at hand, and I know, that even where I fail - or any of us, He is faithful to complete what He began in us.
    Be blessed today as you enjoy the time to teach your children about a God who is always faithful, whether we are or not, and whether we feel like it or not.

It is no wonder you are tired. I'm so glad to know (from what your dds have said) that you eat healthy with all the demands on you. It really makes a difference to have our children home where we can train them to do what is right, doesn't it? I know I would be so frustrated if my kids were in ps and I didn't have the imput into their lives that I do now. I pray that you will feel better soon. How far along are you now?
