Life Skills As High School Courses

5:00 PM, Tuesday, October 17, 2006 .. Posted in Homeschooling- Lessons, Ideas and Tips .. 7 comments .. Link
I found a definite neccessity to incorporate the real-life important activities - everyday life skills- we do around here into transcripts and schedules, etc., so I made up/compiled a list of those I thought of that we are currently planning and working toward. I am sure we will be adding to as our children grow - and so do we!

FOR THE Young Men:

Bible
Home Leadership-
Caring for and Biblically Loving Your Wife

Caring for and Biblically Training Children
    Marital Financial Management
        Setting up a checking account
How to Plan Finances as a Husband
So as to Not Owe Any Man
Setting up and Living within Your Means - budget
            Saving Your Money
            Financing a college education

    Running a Family Business
    Considerations when buying a car

Work Permits
Most states have only appointed public school superintendents as the "issuing officer" for the work permit. Any homeschooler can go to his/her local school district to get a work permit in any state. Some private schools are issuing officers as well and in some states a homeschooler can get the permit from the state (MI is one of those states). Most states do not have an exemption for students who graduate early.

What great things to teach your children. I noticed that you are teaching the boys to be men and the girls to be ladylike. Good job.

...I was just wondering if you know about Keepers At Home and Contenders of the Faith? I have and use both as a guide for Life Skills. Also for the girls (older high school or those that finish high school before we're ready for them to go away to school/marriage) there is an excellent resource called WomenAtHomeUniversity.org It's four years worth of reading list to prepare young ladies to be godly Christian wives and mothers, MaineMommyDeb here at HSB told me about it ages, ago. I've printed out the list to use with LizBeth over time, now that she's in high school

Just thought I'd share,
MaggieRaye

What a great list! I would have never thought of doing this! These are things my DH and I should learn too!

You have excellent lists here Jacque! You also made an excellent observation over at Home Where They Belong. People are already desensitized to what is happening in the public schools, otherwise there would be more action by the parents.

I hope you are having a good day and that your pregnancy is going well.
I just had to stop by and praise your daughter, Jocelyn. She is one great kid! Or I should say, young lady. She has a gift for saying what she thinks and explaining it. I can only hope my daughter grows up to have such strength. It is obvious that you have parented her intentionally and taught her to love God and do what she believes is right.
