So You Think You Know About Homeschooling.....

I like to read what knowledgeable people - and even those who think they are knowledgeable -   think about homeschooling. It is fascinating to read what people can come up with. The way they expound on the horrible things about homeschooling, how it will ruin children and society (apparently they haven't taken a look at society at present, a product of public schools!), how lazy or controlling the parents must be. Or religious freaks.
Like, we just found out we are a part of a movement... whoa.... a Movement.  We are a part of the (if I can even remember) "QuiverFull Movement!"  or maybe the Full Quiver Movement... Ha! Who knew?
Read about those practicing it HERE and HERE. Some people are just plain weird... and I don't mean those who have a meaning and direction to having a "Quiver-full". I mean those who have to give their lack-of-facts- opinions about it. I guess, in our world, everyone is entitled to an opinion... even if they know nothing of which they speak. Sometimes, especially if they know nothing!

There has been some pretty informative - and some quite comical - posting about homeschool and unschooling... yada yada...
Here are the links:

I first read a post written by Mr. Tim Challies about a week ago.
I skimmed his Part 1, and then pretty much skipped it, because it really wasn't about homeschooling.
I read Part 2 and about 90% of the 157 comments. Some are whackos who just want to give their opinion it seems, and you just have to let them go... some are exactly what you wish you could say, and some just infuriate you.
Jay did write a rather nice, positive response to it, though.

I read this evening an older post by Spunky and followed the link to another post... and all of those comments... interesting stuff.

And, somehow, through a link, I also found this post in response to all the hulla-baloo about unschoolers.
And, they call our children sheltered? Do they think we don't shop at grocery stores? Or maybe they just think there is a local homeschoolers warehouse where all of us homeschoolers go with our long, prairie-style dresses and long hair in our buggies with our 15 children... ok, its really our buses, not buggies, but...

If you want to be a well-rounded homeschool parent, don't just know what you know, know what others think about what you know, i.e. the benefits of homeschooling. It will help you control yourself and laugh it off the next time someone asks your child why they aren't in school right now, or "What? You can't read yet? My dear-little -so-n-so could read when they were 18 months old...."  Kinda' like the old - and my favorite - "This is baby # what? Haven't you figured out what causes that yet?"

Oh yes, we have... and we pray the Lord will continue His will as He pleases in that area.
-Be Blessed!

I just found this story of Michelle's and Eric's journey to having children. It is precious. I can relate to several facets of it.

baby #????

Hi Jacque!

Hope this isn't too riske for this audience to share my little antecdote of how we found out "how that happens!"

I think it was baby #4, but who can tell when you have so many, when my husband went to his primary doctor for a visit and mentioned that we were having another child. The doctor gave dh some sage wisdom by exclaiming, "You should keep your pants zipped up!"

My dh quickly retorted, "Yeah, well you should see my wife!"

Now isn't that dear? And until then we didn't know that zippers had anything to do with babymaking! Those doctors are soooo smart sometimes!

Hope all is going well with your pregnancy and that the Lord is opening the door to finding a midwife!

Love in Christ,
Christine

It seems like people think every subject like this is from a book or an author or some one that has given us this "idea". Heaven forbid we come up with an idea on our own...let alone if we think it is from God!! Oh my!! LOL

My husband gets harrassed by men all the time. Especially at work. He acts dumb when people say "Haven't you figured that out yet?" and says something like "No, we just can't figure it out. I think it is because we are washing our clothes in the washer together in cold water. I just can't figure it out!" That is always enough to shut them up. LOL
