Walking Therein

Days and Nights...

Do any of you ever have this problem? We get into this every so often, and it is hard to get out of it.  We have our days and nights mixed up. Well, not completely, but mostly.
Matt gets home from work around 7:30, 8:00pm, and then we eat and clean up, and are up until 10-11:00, just settling down. If we pray at 10pm, it takes a bit for the Littles to get to sleep, then the 3 older girls stay up a bit and sometimes, it is 2 or 3 am (or later) before I get to sleep!
Of course that means I get up around, um, noon! Not really, I get up for the last time around 10 or 11, after getting up 4-5 times before then.  A lot of times, the girls have gotten up at 9 and fed the goats, gotten the Littles up, and are being productive. It's not like they are watching tv or whatever, waiting for me to get up.
I guess the bad thing is that waiting to have dinner until daddy gets home is what works best for us, but the staying up late just comes along with that.
I have never been a morning person, but this is ridiculous. I actually enjoy getting up earlier in the summertime and fall.  And, maybe pregnancy has something to do with it. hmmmm....
Anyway, just wondering if you eat late, go to bed late, rise late....

Hey great picture!

Does your DH have to drive a long distance to get home or are his hours that long? I think every family is different and shouldn't be in the time box just cuz American society says different. If it were MOI, I think I would feed the kids earlier (and probably me too) and then Hubby would eat while the kids talk about their day for a bit, then off to get ready for devotions and bed. Its not really the FOOD at the dinner table, but the connection with communication right? My motto is "Aim for Less Stress" lol.

We are early risers here, DH is up at 5a.m. and I am up by 5:40 to walk with him before he bikes to work at 7:00a.m. Then I get the boys up for PT (physical training) and I walk more while they jog. When we get back DD has DS-5 up and is getting breakfast. She and I walk in the afternoon.

DH gets home around 5pm and we either bike ride or play tennis or swim, so sometimes our meals aren't until 7-ish. If ds-5 is not obeying right away on getting teeth brushed and heading to bed, he is disciplined. My kids are great with the boundaries we've set for their good health and future, the only "problem" with bedtimes is reading after 10pm those good books lol.

When we have a vacation or break, they like to read when they wake up in their beds and 9a.m. is about as late as anyone has gotten up. we mostly are heading to bed by 9:30-10pm, (ds-5 is to start earlier) I sometimes am up until 11pm on chat nights ;) I wish I had more hard chores for them to do here!

PS loved your homestead Christmas update toor~!

With my husband's wacky and unpredictable hours, we are the same way. I *want* to get up early, eat early, and go to bed early, but real life just keeps getting in the way.

If it is working for you, mostly, don't stress out about it too much. If it isn't working, you can tweak the scheduling.

I think this ends up happening to a lot of homeschooling families at one point or another. This kind of freedom with your day is one of the perks (or pitfalls) of homeschooling (depending on how you look at it.)
