Comraderie and Encouragement From "Perfect Strangers"
So, who would think it to be possible to have a small circle of friends in 'real life' and such a large circle of friends and people you cry and pray for and laugh with and love online?
I read today about the homeschoolers in France, who have won a major victory in defeating a bill that would have essentially outlawed homeschooling in their country. I wept. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I read this phrase:
..."We must allow parents who, for instance, have three young children, a mother who is willing to take care of them and if they have decided to teach them to read-write-count--if that is their choice of living--provided that we can verify that the educational job is well done, then that freedom must be preserved."
I wept.
Why? I don't know. I know no one in France. Why did it touch my heart to the point of tears? The only reason I can come up with is that I do know my heart for homeschooling and families who homeschool. I know the heart of a mother who " is willing to take care of them and if they have decided to teach them to read-write-count". I do know what a fear it can be to think that the rights to love my children and bring them up as the One True God admonishes me to can be taken away because people want to control society and our family.
I know, too, that satan roams about, seeking whom he can devour. Do I know my God is greater? Of course I do. Do I believe He is in control? Of course He is. And, in His wisdom, we must walk. And in this world we must live. So, sometimes things happen and we must pray and cry and be joyful when there is victory in the lives of those we will never meet, and other times we must cry and pray and be sorrowful when things happen in the lives of those we will never meet.
Back to my original question about having a circle of friends online. Who would have thought? The internet is such a vast and somewhat horrible place that much must be avoided. Thank God and his people that there are safe places to shop, visit, and community to be a part of!
I get emails from people who come to my blog and find we are kindred spirits and want to meet. I get phone calls asking advice and just wanting to know how we do things...just wanting to talk. I have friends on hsb whom I have not met - but hopefully will - friends that I can IM, email, call and receive calls from. I receive the sweetest comments from some of you, just a note to say hello or a word of encouragement. It is a lovely thing God has done, in allowing us to be a part of the lives of other families in this way. It is an encouraging part of our lives that we feel very blessed to have. We have learned so much by reading websites and blogs. God is good.
We have family who live across the miles, and friends who do also, and it is to wonderful to be able to keep in touch with them by email. It is good to be able to pop in a little note or a full-blown email about the day or thought to a friend -near or far. Thank you, Lord, for each and every person you have brought into our lives. Take time to thank God for how He has enriched your life today and blessed you with friends and the ability to communicate with them via email, their blog or even the phone and snail mail!
To my 'friends' who homeschool in France- PRAISE the LORD for your victory! God be with you as you train your children!
