Living Learning Moments - Apply Daily

It's official... You REALLY can make a Life Application lesson with each child DAILY. I'm talking about Living Learning - real homeschooling.
You know the scripture: Deuteronomy 6 , where it commands us as believing parents to keep these commands in our hearts, specifically this one:
7And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
Well, the Lord - and my children - give me the opportunity each day to apply this scripture.
Today, 4ds9 decided to do a side-flip off the couch and land on the table with his head. So, he, in pain - and I think fear for the damage he could have caused himself - was crying and trembling. The first thing I took care of was his fear. I told him not to be afraid. We do not need to be afraid, because God is in control. I prayed for his head and everything about it, outloud.

Then, as I put an ice pack on his head and held him close, I told him that this is why God tells us to Obey our parents in the Lord that you may live long on the earth. I asked him if he was disobeying by playing on the furniture like that, to which he obviously reponded yes. Then, I told him that this is specifically why God gives us these commands - to protect us. He could, one time, disobey something we have instructed him in, and there could be truly grave consequences. I think he felt that fear of a grave consequence, so it was the perfect time to apply this spiritual truth.
And, later, when he asked for a cup of coffee... and to watch a movie... both which he is not allowed to ask, I applied the same lesson. I told him we are to protect him, and he is to "Honor your Father and Mother", one of the Ten Commandments. I asked him if he would kill someone. Well, no. Ok, then follow all of the commandments, son. They are all equally important and God's laws. They are for our protection in life and in our relationship with the Lord. I told him that when I tell him something, that he is to obey it as though God Himself told him.

And, then, 3dd13:
1dd17 finished separating laundry and asked children to fold theirs. She reminded Rachel she needed to fold them down here (as she has clothing that still needs to be put away in her room and did not want these to end up on the floor). Well, as the 3dd, Rachel is in the Big sister/ Little sister capacity, and is still learning how to apply both roles at different times.
We got to the root of the problem, which is her rebellion toward doing what she is told with a lovely attitude. It is especially bad when it comes from her sisters. We then discussed how she feels when her little sister doesn't want to do what she says. I explained to her that this comes from pride that does not want her to walk in the Lord's ways. Pride is a sin that will ruin her life and keep her from what God has for her.

I asked her if she wants to grow up and be offended when her husband asks her things or not have a loving attitude toward someone because she thinks - she knows- she is right, and other questions. We talked about how God wants to shape her and mold her, but this will keep her from it. I reminded her that I spoke to her about her jealousy of her sisters being allowed to be up later and other things several months ago, and how this is related to that. She agreed. So, now, we must work through another sin, due to this one.
So, I need to pray for her in this area more. A Mother can only teach and show so much, be she can pray. It is always up to our children to heed the words we give them. It is our duty to give them Words of Life and to pray for them - never ceasing.
We have opportunity to do this -each and every day. Do you know this? Do you recognize these precious times to train your child up in the Lord?
I am thankful God leads us as grows us in these areas as Moms. When we take time out of our busy homeschool schedule to teach these all-important spiritual truths, it shapes character into our children's lives so that they can better learn other things we teach them. So, by following God's commands to us as parents, we are making it easier for our children and ourselves to live by God's laws and grow in Him. It will also help them to live in Him when they are grown.
Be Blessed!!!!
Jacque
