Walking Therein

* Other than your belief God asked you to, do you have any other reasons why you won't send your child to public school?

I received some questions on my last post about Amanda's rebellion that I am going to be answering and posting soon.
Sorry... we have all been ill. Yuck! I think most of us are over it, except for the laundering bedsheets, clothing, towels, etc. and sterilizing all of the dishes!

PLEASE NOTE: Some of the clothing description, etc. may not be suitable for my younger readers...

In lieu of answering Mr. Scott's questions, I will give you something else to think about in the area of one question:
* Other than your belief God asked you to, do you have any other reasons why you won't send your child to public school?

My dh gets the "opportunity" to enter the Columbia City High School, delivering mail. Lucky him.

One "lovely young influence" that would no doubt be placed on our children walked by in front of him as he entered...

"She," as he put it, "was wearing her pants buckled at half-way up her backside - like the boys do"

I asked, "Oh, nice, so please don't tell me she was wearing a thong?"

"Nope," he paused. "She was wearing nothing. Nothing but her tan-lines."

And, he goes on to tell me that she's walks right in front of him, and it's not like he tried to look, but there she is - and there are, of course, several other boys, walking behind her. He was appalled.

And in our nice, little, conservative, christian, church-going, family community, too.
Whatever.

Why would we, as 'christian' parents, who want our children to "Be ye Holy as I am Holy" want to place our children where this, so great a temptation, lies? Shame on us parents.

How about I don't want 1dd17 or her sibs to become as the "Whore of Babylon"? (Biblical reference, as I was once as that girl, mind you...)
Or- I don't want my sons to follow her, but run from her?
Proverbs admonishes MEN, not children, to flee from this. If Solomon is telling men this, what can we expect from children - even young adult children?

If you want to read some other really good reasons to keep your child/ren home, read Gena's blog.  Read The Harsh Truth About Public Schools.  Read the Bible.

Blessings-
Jacque

The reality of scantily clad women is a reality all adult males have to face. I am not seeing how your parenting choices equips you children - both male and female - for this cultural realtiy. I'm not passing judgment, I simply want to understand how you think your parenting style addresses this inevitability.

If I may answer Scott (with my own view, of course, not Jacques')

There is a difference between "equipping" someone and throwing him to the wolves. Children are very impressionable and their minds are like sponges. Everything they see and hear and experience is taken in and assimilated. These very reasons are why there are controls (or at least warnings) on motion pictures and television through the rating system. What Matt decribed to Jacques would not get a PG rating, and yet there is was, out there for anyone to see.

The object isn't to shelter children from the cradle to the grave. However, during the time when their minds are forming the distinctions between right and wrong it is important that you show them what is right. When they are old enough to be out among the wrong you want them to have such a firm foundation in right that they are not confused or drawn by it.

This doesn't always work. However, it is obvious from the state culture and fashion is in now, decades following the 1960's and the advent of the sexual revolution, that exposing children to such immoral "norms" in fashion and conduct does not protect them from it. It legitimizes the conduct and even spurs the next generation on to be more "shocking"

Please understand this, and be courteous in your comments:

I posted the original post this post to encourage as many as needed it in our experiences in training up children in the Lord.

This is *not* going to be a forum for debate about homeschooling, ps or christian school, or child training practices. If you have questions that are true questions, ask them. If you have wisdom or encouragement, give it. Otherwise, there are other forums for argument and debate.

Mr. Scott, if you are a former hs parent of 2 adult children, then it is deceptive to go on like this, hiding your true intent. If you have experience with hsing in this area, as you must - for good or bad - then, share it. Otherwise, if you are baiting me or any of my friends/readers, this is not welcome at this blog.

I do not claim to have arrived by any means. We are still learning and listening and changing to be the best we can be, following the Lord, in baby steps. I am thankful for the encouragement and love we have found in this community to train our children in the Lord's ways.

As far as my telling about the (politically-correct term of) 'sleazy-dressed girl' above (what the Bible - and God would actually term a WH*RE), I said it was not to answer any questions. I actually said "in lieu of answering your questions", because I wanted to answer them fully, properly and with my husband's involvement.

Jesus, being the Son of God from birth was not immediately thrown into ministry at the age of 6 - or 12 - or even 18, the ages at which we expect our children to be able to handle exposure to this degraded "style" society approves for them.

As far as "how you think your parenting style addresses this inevitability", I think it addresses this inevitability because it is what God says to do with our children. It is what Joseph and Mary did with His own Son, following Jewish law. If it prepared Jesus, certainly our children will be prepared. They will not have grown up with the pull of this evil, provocative, sensual spirit pulling on them to succumb to their own lusts and they will be better able to turn and run from it than those immersed in it, accepting it as "their cultural reality."
BELIEVE ME, our children are not sheltered from reality. We get to experience this lovely culture weekly.

Just because society have re-defined God's original plan for His People's "cultural reality" does not mean that we, as Believers, should wallow in it.

And, lastly... for this comment at least....

One of the the hardest things about parenting is that you do not know what kind of job you have done until they are grown, and then it is too late to fix it.

This is why we must read the Bible, following God's intent and personality rather than society's, the church's, or even our own opinions in how we train our children.
They belong to the Lord, and it would be better for us to "have a millstone hung about our neck" rather than to offend one of these little ones, offering them up to today's Molech - society's 'cultural reality'.

This is not brain surgery. God gave us a plan. Let's quit making excuses to not follow it as best we can. Let's stop putting our own ideals ahead of an all-knowing God's.

Seeking Him and His ways diligently, *not* succumbing to society and its deception....

Public School Education System

3:22 PM, Wednesday, November 7, 2007 .. Posted by Anonymous
There are a number of reasons I believe parents should remove their children from public school. The reasons vary from the intent of the school system to maintain the status quo to the indoctrination a child receives from educators with a political agenda.

1. In order to be effective in passing the most children possible, the gov. education system has lowered the bar to the lowest common denomination. In other words, children with above average learning skills are not challenged.

2. The gov. education system is highly influence by socialist agendas. These include dependence on others as first alternatives instead of self and God.

3. There are a number of studies available that show the majority of teachers hold a liberal social and political view. This viewpoint is indoctrinated while a child is in the public education system. Case in point is that almost everyone under the age of 40 (and a number of people over 40) refer to the United States of America as a democracy. It was not founded as one, nor was it ever intended to be one; it was founded as a constitutional republic (quotes from Franklin and Jefferson are available on the web or the library concerning this subject)

4. Ethics and civics are no longer taught in the public education system. These two, along with morality, are important character traits that must be instilled in a child at an early age. These items, with emphasis on the last item, have traditionally been the responsibility of the parents.

The public education system is no longer so much about educating the child as it is about maintaining the status quo for the teachers and administration. In spite of continual increase in education funding and spending, the quality of education a child receives continues to go down when comparisons are made on an international level.

Given how the federal government continues to pass international trade agreements that undermines domestic work and productivity, this is an important benchmark.

These are but a few reasons that approximately 20% of parents with children home school their children. That number, along with the percentage of children in private school illustrates why faith in public education continues to erode and states look of alternatives to the worn out public education system (Utah is an prime example, as they recently passed a school voucher bill http://www.heritage.org/Research/Education/wm1362.cfm)

Kevin Scott was baiting me, and did not know that I would find him. He is not the gentle man he was trying to appear to be, and his writing about me and nastiness on his personal blog carried on for a couple ofweeks, but at least this was written out and solidified and a testament to reality and truth.
Blessings my friends!
