Ok, not me - but our children probably could have! We had THE BEST time in TN. All 5 of our older children were dressed up and danced for about 7 hours! We left around 9:30am from home on Friday and had a lo-o-ong trip with many stops on the way there. Needless to say, we didn't get there until around 8pm. Coie and Ryann met us off the highway exit and we followed them home. We met Jen and Geoff Igarashi and their lovely family for the first time IRL. They are as real and as wonderful as they all seem on their blogs... ok, maybe even more. We all got a bit acquainted and whoever was hungry ate some of Jen's REALLY EXPENSIVE Spaghetti Dinner... Hannah was relieved to find out she wasn't sleeping in the basement. Sleeping in the Ig's basement would have been fine, since it is actually used as bedrooms, etc., but she pictured sleeping in our cold, unheated, dirty and badly-lit basement, and was sure we were mistaken that she was to sleep in their basement! James and Isaac hit it off right away and they and Dippy and Hannah played with the growling dinosaurs for quite some time. They brought in our "Stuff", then the rest of them played Taboo for awhile before getting to bed around - I don't know - 11or midnight. The next morning was the BIG DAY. We all got up and ready - all 15 of us. The girls had fun doing each other's hair and getting their dresses on. We have some very talented young ladies, let me tell you. The dresses at the dance were beautiful! When we were ready to go, we met up with the Black's and drove to the dance hall. We enjoyed their presentation about being Missionaries in Ethiopia. We have some friends who are Missionaries to Cambodia, and love being involved in what they do. It was a mixed joy hearing about the persecution and murder that is happening there as they introduce muslims to the Savior. What a blessing to get to participate in Coie's and Ryann's birthday party/dance! I think I had as much fun watching them all dance as they did dancing - without the workout! Never fear, Isaac and Caleb made sure I got one! I was THRILLED to watch all of our children dance! Not only did Amanda, Jocelyn and Rachel have a blast, but Eric and Hannah did too. It was wonderful meeting so many bloggers I already knew as well as other homeschool families I didn't. It was especially nice to spend time with young men and young ladies who were there for the dance and enjoying themselves in a respectable manner. And, to see the 18+yo dancing with the 4,5,6+ yo. without it being a big deal... It was wonderful. Everyone had a great time. Sharra's little girl, who is only 4 was absolutely adorable. It is sweet to see Littles like Hannah dancing along with the adults. The bloggers we met were: TNMOMTOMANYBLESSINGS SAMIAM SARAH PoorBoyHat His4life iluvmy3chickiesandtheirdaddy2 Amy pianosteve anyachristine SweetHomeTennessee The Austin Family If I forgot any of you.... LET ME KNOW... I am horrible with names! Besides... I met so many people, I have to keep checking with the girls to see who I missed! Mike and Sharra and their family were there again too. I enjoyed spending more time with them this time. Shaiya and the girls had fun togther waiting to see if they wanted to actually dance or not at first! We also got to know Paul Jr., Luke, Levi and Julia better this time around. If you want to see pictures... there are some at Jen's, Maria's, and at Jul's. I know there will be more, but this is enough to get you started. If you want to see some video of this dance and the 1st Virginia Reel "competition", visit Gena's blog. I still wanna know which genius came up with the trailer for The Virginia Reel Bluedorn vs. Igarashi 2; It's hysterical!! There is a bit from the Bday Party, too. (When our girls get their posts up, I will link them, too.) The Birthday Girls, Coie and Ryann, blogged it. Amanda Jocelyn Rachel Paulie and Timothy blogged it, too. If you didn't get to come, you only have 8 months to plan to get to the next Barn Dance. It's October 20, 2007 in Abingdon, VA. Afterward - well, after we had to return to the hall because Eric forgot his jacket-, we were fed a real, homemade, from scratch, Mexican dinner, compliments of Gena. Excellent. My favorite, too - flat tacos. - with beans and rice. She made this really delicious mexican corn dish. It was such a simple recipe, too. I'll have to try it for Matt and see what he thinks. I think he'll like it. Sunday we got to know several of the families better. Some of the kids played chess. Eric and the boys went exploring. We had a great time of worship, Bible study, dinner. Gena cooked AGAIN and it was delicious again. It was such a beautiful day that we had the children go outside to eat while the older ones helped them and kept watch over them. I have to tell you that I am so impressed with the boys. All of the Suarez and Igarashi boys, as well as the boys I met at the dance, were so darn chivalrous. I think Paulie about tripped trying to hold the door for me one time. And, there was NO WAY I was even going to be able to drag a suitcase from the bedroom to the front door to set it there, because Bobo insisted on doing it for me - and taking it out to the van. I wouldn't have gotten to do it anyway, because as soon as the Suarez boys - young men- got there, that was what they wanted to know-- what could they help take out for us. Sheesh.... Can you believe it? Fabulous. And the girls? What young ladies. What great helpers and friends. It was like we were long-time friends. All of them, guys and gals, played with and spent time with all of the others. No age-segregation there. I loved it. As a matter of fact, I think I owe Paulie some money-- well, Caleb does, since he downloaded something onto his cell phone! Caleb took a liking to him at the dance, and they were pretty much inseparable! You have to put the keypad lock on that cell phone! We left around 6pm and drove (almost) straight through. After wiping the tears, we spent the first 5 hours talking about all that happened and what fun it was. After that, everyone settled down and Amanda stayed awake, for the most part, as I drove the last few hours. We made excellent time, since the Littles were asleep and there was hardly any traffic! I made it home before my 'twilight zone' time- 3 am. I was so glad I didn't need to stop. Did I mention we had a wonderful time? Exhaustion isn't near as draining when you are surrounded by friends and enjoying what you are doing. (I'll have to remember that on a daily basis!) Thank you to all of you who made our family feel like we were all old friends. We loved it! Be Blessed! Jacque Leave a Comment { Last Page } { Page 422 of 595 } { Next Page } |
