So much to do, so little time to blog. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. Wouldn't it be nice to blog everyday, read all of your friends' blogs and just generally spend mucho time in blogland with your online friends??Problem for the Dixon's is: we have dial-up... it would take me forever to even read a few blogs and post a few posts. [Ok, I'm kidding myself... I haven't had the brain power to enthrall and wow a monkey for a couple of weeks now. Let's face it... if you're not mad at me and even still reading, I haven't even had enough brain power to make a definite decision on my dear little darling's name!!]When we started blogging, we really had to rein ourselves in on our time. It can quickly take over your time, your thought life and just keep you away from so many important things. I know this, because I have had to do this with things like time with friends, scrapbooking, church activities and ministries... to name a few. Lately, I haven't had time to worry about such things. There is truly much to do when you are a homeschooling family of 10 with a newborn, when Daddy doesn't usually get home until after 7, a garden to till and plant, horses to train, goats to milk, an addition to finish... sound familiar? So much to do that I have little guilt, if any, about not talking on the phone and spending times with friends, scrapbooking, and other activities that many consider daily things to do. Though I do long for friendships at times... [If you get The Old Schoolhouse magazine, there's just the article to read on seasons of friendships on p.40. If you don't get the mag, get it. There are many many articles written by wonderful homeschoolers that you will want to read in addition to this one.]I did get to spend time yesterday with a friend I hadn't talked to in a couple of months. I really enjoyed spending a few unexpected hours with her and 4 of her 5 children. She has had a couple of rough weeks, and I had been thinking about her, so I was happy to be able to talk for a bit. Coupling that with having the Suarez family and my Mom and Dee come last week, I have come to realize that one has to watch life to not swing the pendulum to the opposite side, too. We have to balance between something "consuming life" and life consuming everything else. When that happens, I think that is when we start to live from our feelings and lose sight of what the Good Lord has for us. It can happen in a marriage, with family, with friends...in your homeschooling. It can turn one's focus inward and away from God real quick. When that happens, it is not a pretty sight of any of us. Still know what I'm talking about?
I personally know that it's easy to get wrapped up in my own little life. In avoiding a life I don't desire, even. But, thankfully I serve a God who cares about me, and I have a family ever before my eyes and pressing onto my heart to make the right choices. To turn my eyes away from myself and not be bitter or unloving or unkind. To press on toward the high calling of a wife to a weary husband, a mom dedicated to homeschool and set a Godly example for these precious blessings I do not deserve to train, to be an encouraging and loving daughter, sister and friend to those who desire it.
How can I do all of this? I don't know.
Why do I get comments from you who encourage me, telling me I am an encouragement to you? I don't know.
All I do know is what I have already stated: I serve a God who cares about me, and I have a family ever before my eyes and pressing onto my heart to make the right choices. That is what I know, and that is what spurs me on to serve Him and those He has given me.
I am thankful that He has found this a time to bring new friends into my life. Over the past few weeks and months, I have met several wonderful homeschool moms/families in town and by email. God knows how to balance our lives, and His timing is perfect in all things. Blessings! -Jacque Leave a Comment { Last Page } { Page 378 of 596 } { Next Page } |
