For many months now, we have been hoping to start a blog like the Company Porch for the student bloggers here at HSB. A place where the younger set could show case their own Featured Blogger, share book reviews, and fun crafts.
The name for this blog is The Backyard, the place where all the neighborhood children gather, in a safe envoirnment right where the resident mom can keep an eye on things.
You all know, (you better!) how important safety is to us. Several of you have requested that a student blogger be nominated for the Featured Blogger on the Home page. For safety reasons we just can't do that. We realize that there are a lot of great student bloggers here at HSB and we wanted a way to showcase them as well. The Backyard was the answer.
How will it be any safer? First off, it's a blog viewable only by HSB members. Everything will be monitored. Two wonderful student staff members will make sure things run smoothly, and I will be overseeing it. Every comment will be read before it is forwarded to a contributing writer. Any obscene or inappropriate comments will be deleted and the blogger will be banned. No questions asked.
If you have any concerns or questions then e-mail me! Please don't assume we have thought of everything, and don't take for granted that we will watch out for your children! We do the best we can, but ultimately, your children are your responsibility.
Visit The Backyard! The template is still being tweaked, and an avatar needs to decided on, but articles will start appearing on May 1st, rain or shine. Remember, all entries after that date will only be viewable by HSB members. Contributing student writers are wanted, so go take a look at the list or offer something you think other bloggers would like to see.
