Saturday, July 28, 2007 - Saturday Psalm & Praise - Looking for This Week's Song - Until the Trip to the Hospital
I sat down to write this Saturday Psalm & Praise, complete with the icon I had worked with this afternoon... searching Google for lyrics to some of my favorite hymns... or may Biblegateway for a favorite Psalm...
That was before I went outside to the barn to help Eric not be afraid of the dark, and letting Caleb come out with me, because he usually has to make a run for it to even get to be outside...
I showed him the moon and the stars. I asked him if he knew who made that moon... "Jesus did," I told him, and he repeated.
"Do you know who made the stars... do you see that shining little light up there? That is a star. Jesus made the stars too."
And, I thought of all the things that had happened in the previous 15 minutes and I thought, I need to write this down or blog about it or something. And, I sat talking to a friend on IM, with Caleb next to me, killing flies with the fly swatter... Matt told him to get down, which he did. And then he didn't. He climbed back up into the chair that was next to me, but behind me, surely swatting at some little pesky fly... and CRASH!!!!
I jumped up to find Caleb laying face-down on the floor, Jocelyn had rushed over to help him, and as she picked him up, and I picked him up, she saw all the blood on his face and just started bawling. I started telling everyone what to do. I carried him into the bathroom, shouting, "Get me some ice." I held pressure on his head which was bleeding - well, a lot. "Get me a wet, cold rag."
"Stop it, he is going to be fine."
"You too, stop it, he is fine. Really. Get me something cold to put on it."
"Matt, does that look like a vein where it's bleeding?"
"Caleb, it's ok, lay down, let mommy help you." Blood pouring out of his forehead. I wiped it, looking for the source, but I couldn't see before I had to wipe it again.
Now, I don't panic. I don't immediately call 911 and start packing up for the ER. That is not me. I look at what we can do at home. Not this time. This time, we were going to the ER. I asked Matt what we should do. "Does it look like it warrants a trip to the hospital?" Well, he wasn't sure and wanted to wait to see if maybe we needed to go. I told him he was going to have to decide. We needed to assess it and do whatever. It hadn't stopped bleeding at that time. We weren't sure what he had hit; the table, the floor, something in-between.
So, we were going to the hospital. All of us. It was a little traumatic for poor little Granite Head Caleb, since hospital staff have no finesse with or understanding of children.... but that's another story.
So, after holding him so they could take his pulse, give him a CATscan and then put paper strip band aids on his forehead, I was pretty well ready to take that big deep breath.... You know the one: the one that says, "It's ok now, I can breathe and cry, because it is ok. It's almost over."
So, in all of this I left my poor friend hanging on IM ... "I'm quite positive she understood" And, I still needed a song. A somg to praise the LORD. A song to thank Him for stepping in and keeping His hand on my little babyboy. A song to praise Him for who He is. I couldn't do it. I needed to rest in Him first. I need that little breath.
I had already prayed with Caleb and thanked the LORD for keeping us, forHis protection, now I need to just relax in Him. I am thankful for my LORD. I will get a song on a post tomorrow. It is very late here.
Needless to say, his CAT Scan was fine, no breaks or anything else wrong. He is sleeping comfortably right now, and I don't expect anything to go wrong. We got a picture, but it is TOO LATE.
Blessings!

Poor little guy! I'm glad he's doing better. You know, I don't do very well in those kinds of situations. Blood, trauma, etc. just doesn't mesh with me. Of course, if my husband is gone and something happens I certainly deal with it, but if he's here he's the one handling the injury. I'd never make a good nurse! At any rate, I'm glad he's okay!
BTW, how is the wisdom study coming? Goodness, we really need to chat!
Have a blessed day!

| What a touchy moment. I suppose many of us know them. I had just been thinking that it's been a while since we've had to have any ER visits, years, I hope it is a long time still before we do. I'll pray for his healing. I know that moment of a good, long "breath" of rest in the Lord. I am so glad that He is with you. |
